Yes apart from the fact that nobody was fooled by it in the first place, which as I understand it is the whole idea behind April fools day.

My prank this year: I came to work early and installed the "blue screen of death" screensaver on everyone's computer. The best part was how long it took the IT guy to figure it out.

Now THAT is a funny prank :D

well for those of you who can read norwegian, looks like the stunt got pretty good national newspaper coverage here in norway.  The story about how it was or wasn't a good idea and how corbis reacted is now front and center on dagbladet.no

hopefully all publicity is good publicity

This reminds me of a colleague, back in the days o CGA monitors, in vengeance of another colleague who had changed his password on the mainframe computer.  He wrote a BASIC program that made the screen look like it had a TV horizontal problem.  The other guy saw that, tried the cables, hit the monitor...

Adelaide

Can anyone translate or give a summary?

Update: I noticed that Corbis threatened legal action. Good for them. Again, this was a horrible joke. Crestock put into question who owned Corbis, not to mention all the upset phone calls they must have received. That reminds me of another tort Crestock can be sued for, slander of title. They're just lucky none of the news agencies picked it up.

Geez, where's your sense of humour?
You must be a riot at parties.
It's one thing to to prank, friends, family, co-workers. It is another thing to intentionally interferer with another person's business/livelihood. I love april's fools, just I would never do one that could financially harm people, especially people I don't know.

well I don't think there was much harm done to corbis.... It is common for newspapers and radio stations to have april fools news, so why can't a stock site.
I noticed the highlighting. There is a huge difference between me playing a joke on people I've hired and work with, and me messing with a competitors business. If I put out a fake press release that I am buying my competitor I'd expect to be sued, period! Newspapers put out fake news that is obviously a joke and that doesn't hurt/insult other news stations. Crestock put out an insulting press release that had no obvious sign of being a joke.

Guess I was right about the folks at Corbis not finding this as funny as the folks at Crestock, this could possibly go down as the biggest April fools disaster of the century, I wonder if Judge Ross had anything to do with it  :D

Still at least Crestock are able to afford to defend themselves, they can use all the money that they don't pay us on subscription sales.

Life must be tough out there in the wild, wild west if they feel that threatening to sue is the answer to a prank like that. Although the joke wasn't very good, the response looks like hysteria. But then, I'm a European living in Asia, and have probably lost the contact with reality years ago. Good for me   ;D

well you do have a point... perhaps additionally since you were paying the sallery of the IT guy.  I can read the article but not sure I feel like translating the whole thing :)  But it seems like you understood (or translated it on the net) a fair part of it.

I can see this being laughed out of court, if it was to get that far.   It was obviously a joke on April fools day and people who took it seriously probably still think the moon is made of cheese.

For those who can't read Norwegian, here is an excerpt from the article which puts the matter to bed:

The last two lines:

Dan Perlet confirmed to Dagbladet.no his satisfaction with Crestock declaring the case as a prank.

- We are not taking the case any further, he says.

The best one I saw was on Pardon the Interruption on ESPN.  They argued during the show about the merits of the NCAA forcing Kansas and Davidson to replay the final 15 seconds of the NCAA quarterfinal basketball game.  They said it would be played Wednesday night, and was due to a Kansas player with 5 fouls being allowed to stay in the game and guard Davidson's star player in the closing seconds.

I bought it completely.   ::)  Apparently a lot of people did, because they were deluged by email with arguments on both sides.  Nicely done!
