Title: Image types and categories MISSING from the marketplace and requests from buyers
Post by: johngriffin on February 25, 2009, 16:16
I have a few calls each day with large publishers and a few advertisers sprinkled in there and recently we had a conversation with a large and very informed buyer.  We wanted to pass along these nuggets of knowledge so you might be able to plan your next shoots better (these are shorthand notes to help you the reader):

Looking for more diversity with university and middle school students.  For school kids, they need different types of schools…urban, public, etc and avoid trendy clothes and looks if they take off uniforms.

Need plenty of older and younger, not a lot in the middle.

(on CC specifically) Wood working class was too posed, and needed to have safety gear.  All these images that have active people need to have safety stressed in them.  That is really the only way they can be used.  For example an elderly couple riding a bike both need helmets.

Too many posed shots and not enough looking like they where engaged.

School kids form other cultures like South America, Southeast Asia etc.

Looking for more disabled people, not just the elderly, but all types of disabilities with them doing every day things (not focused on the disability).

Native Americans living in every day life with demographics in keywords

Need more photos with minorities in them and to be keyworded with the word ‘minority’ because this is a popular search term.

In addition, we got these requests for images that you might be able to fill.  See this blog post for more details and thank you for any help.

The address above is our new blog which I haven't designed up yet so please don't give me too much crap. hahahah.  It is just to show you what the request was.

Cheers, John

I forgot to mention, but I would love it if you uploaded images to the site that you felt were a good fit for any of these categories and types above.  They don't have to be exclusive but you can make them if you want.  John

Are this pictures going to take as long to get review as the other ones already uploaded on the site that are still pending? :P

BTW UncleGene...If ever there is a moment that I would need someones opinion of my work, except coming from a buyer, I will ask for it. ;)

I am not getting one thing from the article. These concepts/images were already used by somebody so why bother creating/uploading similars?

ssuper  hahaha  large and in charge

@melastmohican   These ideas are ones that this large buyer said were under-represented and were areas that photographers could shoot and were needed.  Once I heard these topics I started to ask other buyers and they completely agreed.  I am sure people have tried to shoot them but this was highlighted as a glaring hole in the marketplace.  I wasn't trying to say they were used already or already shot but only meant that they were highlighted as missing from the marketplace and could be shot.  Just some ideas to throw out there.

I've spent several minutes trying to understand what could cause such reaction.
Still not sure, may be you thought that by "first couple examples" I meant your work? If yes, than you are wrong, sorry for not being clear.
First couple examples are from the article. Or they are yours?

If you check my past posts, I never ever judge others art work.
The only thing that pisses me off, and my sarcasm in this post was about it, is incompetence in support (customer, technical, reviews, etc.)

The few times I have had to email Cutcaster for support or whatever, I have always got a very expedient response...even on a weekend before.  Maybe you can post or give a link to the photo's that got rejected for composition?

UncleGene I must have missunderstud the (first few example) part of your post and thought that it was in reference to my photos and not to the article, for that I must apologise, I must have had a senior moment I guess. Best regards. ;D

snaprender, It was all a missunderstanding on my reading, they where no rejected photos, so there is nothing to see.

My apologies to everybody, and at the first place - to John. Will delete my original message. My complaints have absolutely no relation to Cutcaster, the only problem I have with it that my photos do not sell :)

All my rants were about different site, that just happen to start with the same letter (CS), and I am either getting blind or crazy, as Cutcaster name was all over the thread :(

perharps neither of you ppl were intentionally being sarcastic. and it's not difficult to be misunderstood. but it's good that both of you cleared it up so quickly.
yet, another good reason to be careful with sarcasm in this forum , as we are global and each culture has a different outlook in how they view skepticism and sarcasm.
cheers ! ;)
