Email just received from DP :

We would like to inform you about changes to the Promotional Program. Due to that fact previous terms of Promotional Program will be in force until April 1st, 2010 for the users who have registered until March 1st, 2010. During this period you will receive the earnings for files that were accepted to our collection.
We highly encourage you to upload only top quality images.

Notice: users who have low acceptance ratio run the risk to be removed from the Promotional Program
before April 1st, 2010.

It had to happen !!  ;)

That's the nature of promotional programs, that they last only until they stop serving their intended purpose.  Glad I got in when I did.

Just got the same email...what does this mean exactly? Are they only paying out for images accepted until April 31st or are they no longer paying? I just uplaoded a couple more and I guess I'll have my answer soon enough!

Me too...it's kinda of confusing because they say it will be in force untill April 1st then say "for the users who have registered until March 1st, 2010." I wonder if  that was suppose to be "before" March 1st rather tan "until"??

I'm assuming it means they'll carry on paying until 1st April (NOT 31st as stated above) for people who registered before 1st March.

So 26 days to upload and get paid !!  Get cracking chaps !!  ;)

I had that same thought...I need about 200 more images to get my second payment of $50.00. Maybe I'll spend the afternoon at the zoo  :)

I did warn u about hurrying up with your uploading !  Time to get cracking !!  ;)

Maybe u haven't uploaded enough to qualify for the email !?

...now, if you click on "promotion" everything is still there. but somewhere between the lines it says "We are sorry, but you are not able to participate in Promotional Program at this time. "

so, this sounds even more fishy to me. they are still advertising with something new subscribers can't get anymore!

the only honest way would be to take this promotion off the site. the submitters who are in that program know already they are participating. so, why would anyone else want to know about this promotion now?

Quite fishy indeed.

I signed up and was approved at the end of February, but before March 1.  Submitted an initial batch and I am not being given the promotion.  100% of initial batch approved.

Sent an email and havent had a response from DP.

I am not liking my initial experience so far. I will let you know if something changes.

It is great that their promotion is ending. It is an opportunity to see what they will look like on the "Microstock Poll" without the bonus.

Imo, it is not worth sending the whole port and doing all the work of uploading for just $100 if it is not going to continue generating money.

Let's see where they rank now!

Here the response from the Deposit Photos team.

"According to the new conditions of incentive programs we have limited
access to the Promotion Program for the most photographers. It is connected
with great amount of works of inadequate quality sent the photographers who
participated only in order to receive payments under the Promotion Program.
As a result of their bad faith, we have tested many poor-quality
photographs; and in case of rejections of such works we heard accusations
of too stringent selection.

As a result, it was decided to restrict access to the Promotion Program
and allow it only for top-level photographers. During the check of the sent
works inspectors rate overall quality of photos of each individual author.
If the inspector sees improvement of the overall quality of works, a low
percentage of rejections, he can show loyalty and activate the Promotion
Program."

huh?? why do they accuse us of bad faith when THEY havent managed to make any sales?  of COURSE i participated because there was a promotional fee - why else would i spend time upl'ing to a new unproven site.  i made the $100 and got the payment -- i'll upload more if they produce some sales

Wow.  I'm going to guess that the folks at DP had no idea how many photographers would take them up on their offer, nor how much the quality of submissions would vary.  I don't doubt they got a lot of stuff that wasn't worth paying for.

Where I'd disagree is where they ascribe an intent to take advantage of them.  Most of us think our work is pretty darn good, and would sell well if it can only get in front of the right customers.  We wouldn't spend all those hours uploading and submitting for a hundred dollars if we didn't expect to make a whole lot more.  There's a leap of faith here on both our parts.

If they'd been more cautious, they might have limited their offer to top sellers on other sites.  Instead they opened it to the world, and were surprised that it's a pretty big place.  Guess somebody didn't do their homework.

they're also holding the photos for at least 6 months for only 20 cents.  >:( that's a pretty leap of faith for any photographer. i wouldn't upload the best just for that.

It sounds like they underestimated the load of poor images every site has to sift through to build their database of good (or decent) stock.

Someone just sent me a link to my stolen images on depositfiles. No way I'll upload anything to their system site regardless of how much promotion they pay. No way!

Many portfolios full of stolen images were found several times on all major micros (SS and IS including). So is there anything specific to this case with DP like that they refuse to deal with it?

I agree... I just can't justify spending the time and mind-numbing effort of all those uploads just for $100.  The odds are certainly against this site generating decent income for any of us.  For me, my time is better spent processing and uploading images that will sell day in, day out at the other sites, which will make that time investment a much better payout than $100.

I uploaded 135 images - only ones that have been accepted by other agencies. Of those 37 were rejected, leaving me 98 online. I should have $19.60 in my account but I only have .40 cents. That means that out of 98 images they are only giving me credit for 2. Anyone else getting short changed for their uploads?

Today, some previously accepted files were removed, and the promotion money decreased accordingly.

I'm still getting paid for my uploads. I haven't noticed any photos being removed. I guess I ought to take a closer look.  :-\
