Depositphotos refused my earnings request. It’s said that my w8 expired. After I updated it, they still ask me to submit my passport, which violated the EU personal general Data Protection Regulations. (Loi n° 78-17)

I really do not see where asking for your passport is violating the EU general Data Protection Regulations. You want to enter a legal bussines relation with someone, you got to identify yourself. The  EU general Data Protection Regulations  is about data processing, it's no law against identifying yourself.

Looks like your working for depositphotos.

You should know with my w8 form I already identified myself. Depositphotos don’t have to ask me again my passport.

Based on European law, I will sue depositphotos in France taking in charge by French judge according the French law 78-17.

That’s why as my lawyer said, all big stock agencies don’t dare ask copy of passport.
FYI even in Germany’s hotel they can not copy guests passports.

Depositphotos has another problem : the tax scams in USA

Yes, of course I am working for Depositphotos.  ::)

Btw, I am from Germany and here hotels DO ask for passports to identify yourself. Copyin is another issue, but that's not what we are talking about. Wanting to see your passport and copying and storing that information are two different things. There are laws against Depoitphotos processing your passport information in a certrain way. There is no law against them asking to see the passport for identification and unless you can show them your passport in person, sending it online is the only way.

But good luck with your lawsuit.

They need the taxform to be able to pay out without the us tax, which goes to the usa not depositphotos and they want an identification document to make sure it is really you. Nothing unusual about this in the business world.

I really don‘t understand your problem.

If you don‘t want to properly identify yourself to prove who you are, I would think you are doing this because you are the one not declaring your stock income to your authorities…I mean why else try to hide your identity?

After all a stranger could fill out the form using your stolen id details. You would not want that to happen, do you?

Proving your identity also protects you from scammers and identity theft.

But sure, abandon deposit if you feel uncomfortable. They won‘t miss you.

eta: also from Germany…every hotel asks for your id in addition to your credit card. They need to know who is staying in their hotel and to make sure you are not using a stolen credit card.

Submit passport online means storing my personal sensitive data.

My identity has already been identified. ONLY DEPOSITPHOTOS asks for passport, never SSTK and ADOBE do it. This is the difference between clean and dirty companies.

You don’t understand DEPOSITPHOTOS’s problem because you ignore the law.

How has your identity been identified? By filling out a tax form? That's not an identification. The point of your passport is literally to identify yourself.

And yes, of course Shutterstock and Adobe also ask for ID:

We require a valid, government-issued photo ID card to verify your identity before you can start selling your work. The ID is secure and once validated it is removed from our system and cannot be accessed again.

You told to newbies how to create an account?!

According the European Law Depositphotos is still wrong. It will be ruined Depositphotos reputation.

Clearly the more you’re talking the more Depositphotos makes professional mistakes.

All agencies I work with require an id and I have uploaded one. Exactly like we have shown you. Maybe depositphotos has just started to make their page conform with EU laws?

Do you really believe Getty, Adobe, Shutterstock don‘t know the legal situation in Europe? All of them have my ID.

And you are the only one in the stock galaxy that knows „better“?

Anyway, enjoy your crusade against deposit. I focus on making money.

I find the discussion here confusing to the max.

Of course, companies are allowed to ask for and store personal data. Only the conditions for handling, protection, etc. were tightened in 2018 with the european General Data Protection Regulation.

You refer here with your paragraphs Loi n° 78-17 to a French data protection law from 1978.

Or do I have a board in front of my head now?

What in the world are you even talking about?  You make no sense.
I didn't tell anyone how to create an account. I showed you a direct quote and screenshots from both Adobe staff and Shutterstock to remind you that of course the other agencies also ask for IDs, not just Depositphotos.

This is my last post because here all of posts are to unclear.

Simply DEPOSITPHOTOS (DP) has made 3 faults:

1. doesn’t pay contributor’s works earnings (70 or 100%)
2. Violates the law on personal sensitive data
3. Tax scam in USA

For my lawyer all replies here are useful to know DP comportments and how DP is trying to deflect its faults to the public.

Do we all have to testify in court now? ::)

You should change your lawyer. Good luck. ;D

No, you do not have to 'identify' yourself with private personal information like that. Many do "demand" it - but it doesn't make it 'right'.

BTW - you guys (who voluntarily give up 'all' your information just because someone demands it), and I agree with the OP that it is wrong - should really look into id2020.org, and see what the real purpose behind this is - the reasoning actually is quite more sinister. Especially how you have so many 'data breaches' all the time (in some ways deliberate, i.e., 'cyberpolygon' exercises by the WEF) - to try and 'push' people into a 'digital id' - so if they don't comply, they are 'cancelled'.

Companies are legally permitted to ask for your identification and there are laws on how this personal information is stored and for how long.

Depositphotos is not my favorite agency for various reasons, but what you're trying to implicate here does not make any sense.
But yeah, good luck on your legal proceedings and proving tax fraud, I'm sure your lawyer(s) are thrilled to have you as their customer. How much have you spent so far on your lawyers?

Whoohooo! Yes, I give up all the private sensitive super secret  information that is on my ID - My name, my address, my birth date. EXACTLY the same information I have to enter anyways when I create an account  with a microstock agency and enter a legal binding bussiness agreement.
The ID is just there to verify the information I entered is correct.  ::)

You can try to keep that infromation secret (for whatever reason), but good luck finding a job, an apartment or sign any legal contract without giving away this information.
