No offense, but if you're unhappy about that, you shouldn't do microstock and instead do real photography assignments. Or don't sell via Depositphotos, although most agencies sell for pennies.

It's not the price that bothers me, in this case, it's that particular buyer purchasing the wrong license, either deliberately or by ignorance.

This needs to be an extended license as it's above the 500,000 circulation limit.

Also steaming from more than a dozen suspicious Alamy Personal Usage licenses...

Thank you for bringing this to our attention as I have found I also sold a pic at this very issue, for a low price.
In the past, I had sales on travel book guides or airport magazines editions but they were under 500.000 print runs so they fitted the licensing rights that Shutterstock sells.
It does not feel rewarding to see your work paid so low but that was the license.
In this case, with Depositphotos it’s different.
If the magazine circulates more than 500k copies, my pic and your pics need to be paid as part of an extended license.
Belavia says:  Audience - more than 4 million people a year.
Is it their personal estimate, counting heads or they actually print at that level?
I will also contact Depositphotos, as I believe they were not aware of this use.
In real life no one likes to be robbed and in such an unfortunate event calls the police, as simple as that.
Here, if there is a misuse, we need to do an inquiry and protect our interests in a polite and formal way.
We do not need witty comments about stock sales, we all need to be united on that.

4 million views a year is not 4 million copies a year. The magazine is a monthly (although I can't read a word on that page in Russian?)  :)

Hypothetical, 4 million views / 12 = 333,333 a month. That's under 500,000, even if every passenger gets a copy.

But it's also online, I can't recall if the digital version counts for any specific use or if that's included?

Ah forgot to update on the issue. So they consider the individual circulation of the magazine per publication so only about 7,000 copies which is well below the 500,000 limit. Nevertheless, always good to keep them on their toes!

I think someone else said that. It's views not circulation?

I think their number tells you more about how many passengers they carry a year than how many magazines or readers they have. It's standard media practice to present circulation in the most exaggerated way possible in order to try to justify inflated advertising rates.
