Not just at Depositphotos (pixmac another as an example), they seem to have a terribly weird algorithm for determining the 'Most Popular' files to be displayed at the bottom of a contributors Profile page.
eg: http://depositphotos.com/user-1288156/Timothy-Hester.html (http://depositphotos.com/user-1288156/Timothy-Hester.html)
None of the files displayed are my highest selling. In fact I would bet they are just randomly generated, as they change each time I view it and they are never correct.
Why not ACTUALLY show our most popular? What's the reasoning behind this?

Hi THP!
I can explain, how the algorithms for the most popular images work on our site.
It depends o a combination of how long the file has been on the site and how often it has been not only downloaded but also viewed.
Thatīs why you may have a file in yur most popular section that has never actually been downloaded. But it would have been viewed many times.
Also, new files have good chances of becoming "popular files" quickly. If, for example, a file had been uploaded only one day ago and has already been viewed 10 times, it will be depicted as more popular than a file that has been viewed 200 times, but over the course of a whole month.
I hope that clears your doubts up a bit ;).
I can assure you, that they are not random but do follow algorithms according to my explanation above.
So they really are the most popular rather than just the most sold.

Hi Marius,
Thanks for such a quick reply, that does clear things up a bit.
Much appreciated :)
