Hi all,

I'm a Dreamstime contributor and have recently been teaching myself php coding. I thought I'd reach out to see if anyone might like to help me test a new stock based website I've been working on in my spare time.

Alongside a traditional image search, I have developed a 'Stock Image Keywords Game' to try out my new skills.

http://five-thumbs.com [nofollow]

I wanted it to be a fun way for contributors to help fellow artists with keyword suggestions. Especially those for which English may not be their first language.

It's a little rough around the edges (I'm still getting to grips with CSS) but I think the basic coding works. It just needs a good old-fashioned testing.

Basically, contributors can sign up for free and add five of their Dreamstime image ids to the database along with just five keywords. These become searchable to buyers who can then link to Dreamstime to make a purchase.

When someone plays the game itself, an image is selected at random and they have to guess which keywords were used. If they get one right first time they get one of their own images featured on the home page. If they go on to get them all right, they get all their images featured.

The suggested keywords are sent to the image creator to give them an idea of what others believe their keywords should be.

I hope it will be a fun and useful resource and look forward to your comments and ideas. But please remember, I'm new to this coding lark so please bear that in mind! Thanks.

==dont force a verified registration - let people play and only require registration to get their image featured.

==does it automatically add plurals?

are these images really as poorly keyworded as they seem?
== rotterdam netherlands image doesnt take netherlands or rotterdam

--for the vw on rainbow i submitted pink, blue, heart, hearts, vw, volkswagen and onlyy got 1 hit for rainbow.

-- for laurel & hardy, stan and oliver not re==cognized??

-- for rooster got no match for red, rooster, fowl or eye?

-- for weber grill got no hits for weber, grill, corn, bbq or skewers

==after finished submitting, show actual keywords??

==matched 1 and said one of my images would be featured -- where does that image come from?  i dont get that msg on subsequent tries - thumbs are gray??

== should clarify that the 5 green thumbs must come on first try of one image, not 5 greens over several images

On first try i didnt see i could add my images.  on looking at update images (should say add, or submit images?), it appears match will only take place for the 5 keywords entered?  this is frustrating for players, and not helpful for photogs as they're going to get many keywords submitted that are already  part of the actual image in DT

---
after playing, i came back & realized i could scroll down & found the explanation of the gray thumbs - but nothing previously mentioned about having the keywords in right order!! that's asking too much of players, increases frustration and adds no value for player or photog

i submitted an image with no problems - all worked smoothly

==============

----------------
logged out played game - scored 1 green, then 2 on next image & said i'd be featured, but nothing shows; log out & back in, still nothing

how are you going to handle more than 5 featured on the home page? won't take many players to overload that section

Wow. Thanks for the feedback Steve, I really appreciate that you've put a great deal of time and effort into testing it out. Straight away I can see some things I can work on.

In answer to your feedback:

I set it so that only registered users can play to limit spam or inappropriate suggestions. I was considering adding a 'report' button but wouldn't be able to trace the culprit if non-registered users could play. Certainly worth considering though.

I haven't worked out how to do plurals as yet! Currently beyond my coding ability.

Yes. The images do seem to have very random keywords, but they are what the contributors believe to be the most appropriate! You've actually helped me already as my image is the barbecue and I received your suggestions. I hadn't even considered the word Weber. So that part worked exactly as I hoped it would!

Showing the keywords after submission is a great idea. Or perhaps I should add a button to end the game early then show them?

Your images displayed on the home page are taken at random from the ones you've added from DT. I notice you've only added one, so they aren't showing up. I'll need to rewrite the code to only display images if all five are added. That's exactly the type of testing I needed, thanks.

I've fixed it so that only your first efforts are sent to the contributor as I thought it would be more spontaneous, and they wouldn't be inundated with emails from the same user. I'll keep this in mind though.

Good point about the five green thumbs being on one image. You can try as many times as you like though it can get frustrating can't it  :D Your 'show keywords' idea would work well here, or maybe a 'show one more' button.

I will make the 'add images' info more prominent as suggested. That's a really good observation.

I agree I need to make the instructions clearer. It's just working out where to put everything on the page without it looking cluttered.

You're right that I may have to add more images to the home page. I was trying to keep everything in fives but more may be better in this instance.

Thanks again for your help. Looks like I've got some more coding to do!!!!!!!

having an end early key would be great

asking players to guess the order is a bit too much - they should get a green thumb for any match

the biggest drawback is trying to guess which 5 words of the 10-50 that might be in the actual image - so the player may really be getting hits, and the photog will be getting suggestions for keywords already online - is the need for photog to enter 5 keywords due to inability to read from DT?

from the instructions:
Quote
Match one of the creator's keywords and we'll feature one of your images on the home page.

this is confusing - it sounds like it promises to place my image on the home page, when it seems there's just a chance it will display as there are only 5 places - as more images are featured, the frequency of display will diminish

also, would prefer not to have to enter 5 images in order to have our image displayed - or the instructions should be explicit that 5 need to entered
