I opt to drop esclusivity status on DT.

How much loss in earnings can I expect ?

30% less? 50% less ??

Thanks

if you get into SS, IS etc you will gain. Depends on how many images you have to upload elsewhere, assuming you intend to upload elsewhere. I assume you will upload elsewhere if all you are giving up is exclusivity. You will lose some money initially, but DT is such a poor performer you will gain once you are in the other agencies if you have sellable content and some volume.

Thanks Mantis.

I know I will increase my earning selling my products on other agencies.

I just wonder how much loss in earnings can I expect from DT due to dropping exclusivity :-)

I don't know how much more you get from being exclusive there and how it works. If it is just percentage based in commission, subtract that from indy commish and there's your answer. But if you are getting preferential placement in search that adds a bit of guess work.  Overall, I would say that 30% is a fair number to use.

I have no numbers on which to base my suspicions as I have never been exclusive on DT. But I see that exclusive people (on their blogs and such) seem to be doing way WAY better than me with far fewer photos. DT really seems to promote the content of its exclusive sellers. I feel (again, no numbers, just a feeling) that I am making 10% of what I would be making on DT if I were exclusive. Maybe the fact that your content has already sold will help you (keep you at a higher level, etc). And I do think selling on other sites will get you more overall profit than staying exclusive on DT. But I would expect a dramatic drop in profit from DT proper.

About 15% of my images on DT are exclusive files and they make me a lot more than most of the photos in my portfolio - they nearly all got to Level 4 and 5 quickly and tend to have a lot more credit sales, though I have a handful of non-exclusive files that have been popular and good earners too. Most were uploaded for assignments there (hence Level 5) and the newer Editorial assignment files don't do as well. I think that having some exclusive images there helps my overall portfolio, but I don't know how these images would do if they weren't exclusive. They may be popular because the assignments request the types of images that DT is looking for and the exclusivity may not be a real factor at all. Similar genres of these images also do nicely for me there - this is all very unscientific and I have a very small portfolio there - about 213 files/982 sales. Far fewer sales than on SS, but high RPI and RPD than SS.

I guess losing your placement by giving up exclusivity could lose you a lot, but most people report better sales via SS and FT than on DT, so you might do better overall once you get all your DT files uploaded elsewhere, but it's a lot of extra effort to upload to several sites rather than one. Maybe you can leave a chunk of your best-selling top level images as image-exclusive there and place the rest of your portfolio elsewhere? I don't know their rules but that could be a way to hedge your bets since DT allows for image exclusivity.

Mantis is right. You simply have to get in to SS and Adobe/FT. Thats the only two places where the money is. Sadly so.

I have thousands of files with DT, most regrettably and they are performing worse then the only low-tier agency I ever joined. I don't blame you at all! I have yet to come accross somebody with a large portfolio at DT earning accordingly. They are pushing subs packages.
