Title: Does the fact to write a Dreamstime blog push the sales?
Post by: Chichikov on September 10, 2016, 05:01
These days Dreamstime sells less and less.
I will pass on the (supposed) reasons of this because here we all know about their stupid and out of date marketing policy.

I was wondering if the fact to write a “Dreamstime blog” can have an influence on the growth of the sales, for example giving you a better rank in the search (or what else).

Calm down… If you have heartburn take some Alka Seltzer it can help...

____
I have been told that on some microstock sites the fact to participate actively to the forum can push your rank up. I don't know if it is true.
For this reason I was wondering if the fact to write in the Dreamstime blog could have a similar effect.

So I wonder why you are writing on a microstock forum where you can find useful answers and advices to help you to sell better…

"Like go swimming to be able to dance??"
The fact to practice a sport or to have a regular physical activity helps to keep your body in good shape.
Having a body in good shape is very helpful to practice any other physical activity.
So yes swimming can help you to dance better.

Why would you ask the question if you're going to get snarky with those that reply?

This is why I think of Dreamstime as an amateur's photo community. If writing silly blogs about your 100th upload and commenting on other blogs with "nice article, thanks for sharing" is required to get sales then let the hobbyists have it and maybe it will die soon.

I roll my eyes at DT blogs. I like to imagine buyers also roll their eyes but if you want to blog about your latest milestone in hopes that it gets you another .35 then go for it.

ya dude,
but at least an amateur's photo community does not keep losing their contributors portfolio
so often that their clients cannot find anything except an error message. 8)

Honestly, the reality is that many of us are willing to try anything reasonable to grow revenue and in some cases we've been conditioned to do so. Look at FAA. Supposedly if you participate in forums and post and like and blog and whatever, you get favorable placement.  I haven't done it but I wouldn't scorn anyone for trying.

He did not reply, he just asked three aggressive questions.
Answer to a question with other questions is very impolite… And surely don't solve nothing.

And as I am educated I have then answered to his questions…

For the rest of your answer I totally agree with you, it is exactly like this.
For this reason I was wondering if it is useful or not.

If stock is a "business" then marketing is one business activity. Whether you like it or not IF writing a blog boosts sales then it would be worth considering. I doubt it does though.

I was interviewed for the Envato blog and noticed a decent enough boost in sales. Could have been a coincidence, but I don't think the possibility should be ruled out. If you have the time and a good topic to blog on, then I guess it can't hurt.

Wrote around 3. Did get 1 or 2 more views for the images I put in. Probably won't help much with sales though, as the only people reading these blogs are the other contributors.

I love MircoV 's take on this 😀. We are photographers or illustrators, we do visual. Time is precious and we are busy enough ! !
Personally I would not even dream of starting to write.

That said If you are a really good and witty writer it sure can help marketing your work.
You need to be great though to stand out. Otherwise it is waste of time.

Everyone in a highly competitive line of work needs to do things (or pay other people to do them) other than just producing the product. Business and marketing 101.

Reminds me of another strange statement: "I'm a photographer/musician/painter, do I need to study SEO now too?".

Simple answer: Yes, you do.

Blogging on DT seems like a waste of time to me. If blogging is what it takes to sell an image at DT, then I'm out. I have better things to do (such as posting here.)

Being the featured photographer there doesn't push the sales (from my experience).
So blogging in a blog that nobody reads and cares about...  :o

DT is slowly dying, that is a fact.

Agree.  If you have the skill and interest to blog, makes more sense to start your own blog and direct readers to your own site or whichever site you make the most money

I sell stock in order to be able to go swimming, rather than being stuck in a stupid office managing a few dozen staff (oddly enough, before discovering stock, writing was my job).

Well, most of the blogs are targeted for other contributors with photo tips, etc.  Maybe to write for your market would give better results?   Anyway, I don't bother with it any more but what can it hurt if someone wants to try.
