DT is looking for individuals to sign up to become "Keymasters" (people that will keyword images for .20/image).

Submitters will then be able to upload images without keywords, and then the Keymasters would keyword the image.  The submitter would be charged .20 and this would be applied to the Keymasters account.

Keywords created by Keymasters won't be viewable for the first 3 months (so that you can't copy them to your other images in a series).

What do you guys think of this?

For those with time on their hands and a big theasuraus 20c sure beats 2c and its easier to start with a blank piece of paper rather than think of 10 new ones not sure what the rate per hour would be but could come in handy when you are desperately close to a payout.

Would submitters really pay 20c , I presume we could still see the file after we have uploaded as FTPing sometimes strips the IPTC data though more of a problem on SS, I would hate to end up paying 20c due to an uploading error.

Glad to see its only after the image has been accepted

At this stage we don't consider there's a need for a minimum, but don't apply unless you can devote at least several hours of hard work weekly if not daily.

Though as someone mentioned in the thread a bit pointless unless you are a DT exclusive as you will have to keyword the image yourself for the other sites as you can't see the keywords for 3 months to prevent you from keywording an entire series from one image.

So how many do they have to do to earn their 20c.  what incentive do they have to keyword well.  And you cant even go in to add missed one s for 3 months as you dont know what you missed.

My guess is keyworders will just have generic lists and will copy and paste without apply specific words.

I suspect that supply of keymaster will far exceed demand of images with blank boxes as if you were an exclusive you wouldn't want to wait 3 months to see why your image wasn't selling due to poor keywording

i can see people who speak a foreign language (ie not english) would find this usefull.  Not sure the 20c quite lures me to be a 'keymaster' though.

And consider this  ...

If someone's going to keyword an image accurately (rather than cut and pasting) it's going to take longer than a minute ... agreed? But, let's for sake of argument say it can be done in a minute. 20 cents a minute is $12 per hour (without taking into account any breaks).

You could earn more serving fries in a fast food restaurant.

$12 an hour would be quite a draw. However...

there is no way in hell you'll be able to populate images title, description and appropriate keywords in under one minute. Then also consider lag time of system processing it and loading up next image. You have to look at an image, decide, type, check spelling. For me (and I'm fluent in english and two other languages) keywording and filling in the EXIF data (title, description, copyright and keywords) takes a good part of 3-5 minutes per image. I usually put between 25-40 keywords per image but there are images when I am absolutely stumped and I'll waste 15 minutes just thinking of something clever. What about destination, landmark shots? What if you don't know the name of the landmark and it's the key feature of the photo. You'd need to look it up online then populate it.

I think in reality it is fair to say that in the beginning stages you're looking at 5 minutes per image then within a month you'd probably narrow it down to 3 minutes including loading the images. So we're talking about $2,40 to $4,00 an hour. I think it's more for the hobbyist than as a way of living.

It allways depends, if you have images in a row of the same subject you can copy paste and you can come easily under a minute. And if you do this for hours and days you will get faster, because you do not have to think about the keywords, they just pop up, seeing the image.  I am much faster now in keywording than I used to be. Imagin a keywording fulltime job. I guess you can become really fast as a proffessional. Imagine doing that for a month with 8 hours a day 5 days a week @50 images/hour (for the first month). Then you have keyworded more images than almost anyone has online. Probably then you are a proffessional.
For people in India this job could be really attractive, they have internet and still low wages.

FreezingPics - You may be right except you would probably run out of a supply of photos in the first week, and that is if only one keyworder signed up. (you would be doing 2000photos pw and earning $400)

I don't know who bothered applying but this is the reply I got

Please send us a resume that would recommend you for this job as well as a letter of intention.
Please mention how many hours per day you will dedicate to this. You need to be aware that if you sign up for this program you will have to stick with it like to any other regular job and that we need to have the above mentioned information to be able to choose the right people.

Still overseas so I haven't replied yet but its my last port of call the big T (not that any one calls Toronto that)

Though my resume has sweet FA to do with photography which probably explains the long hours for low income. I still think there won't be too many images to keyword.

Looks like the new feature is live and available.  I wonder how many will be using the feature?

I am using it, it saves a lot off time, and I guess they are doing a good job. I got my first images keyworded. I am doing it for those  I am not sure they get acceppted and where keywords are harder to find, so it saves me a lot of time.

hang on but surely you are submitting these photos to other sites? You will still have to keyword them yourself for shutterstock etc

No, too much work, which I do not know if it is worth the effort, and if they get accepted at DT and they sell well, I still can submit to SS and the other agencies.

So you are testing your new images at DT seeing how they sell and then keywording the popular ones yourself for elsewhere. I suppose that is one option if you have very limited time and have a respectable acceptance rate at DT.
