Dreamstime just started allowing GPS location data in their files.  They are busy collection the data now and are going to create buyer features for the data in the future.

I have been thinking for a long time that this would be useful for buyers wanting landscape or travel images, it's nice to see an agency putting it to work.

Now if Canon would just get on the GPS bandwagon and give us a good GPS solution.

Now all I need is a 50 dollar gps to scout all the best sellers' locations.

I see many good aspects with this, but wish we didn't have to be so specific. Many of my pictures could be of interest for buyers looking for "Norwegian" stuff, but they probably couldn't care less which street of Oslo the picture was shot.

I guess this may be a problem for those who keyword any beach as "caribeean, bahamas, cozumel, maldives, hawaii, tahiti, fiji"  :D

I hope they don't make this a requirement, though. Even if I am not uploading anymore.

I certainly can't see it being a requirement. Most images have no use for gps data.

Also some massive privacy risks if all your shoot locations become available to buyers...

one bug in their gps locator is that if you start to enter a location, you can't then decide not to - you first get an error msg saying to zoom in, but there's no way to cancel.

it's gpoing to result in a lot of badly tagged images  - better to just ttake the gps info if it's supplied w the image

Yeah, I can't see much use for it, other than to prove your Caribbean beach was indeed taken in the Caribbean. But couldn't you accomplish the exact same thing by keywording correctly?

seems a bit of gymic to me.

I tagged a couple of my latest downloads but I had to give an approximate location as they were travel photos (street shots) that I couldn't remember the exact location they were taken from. I don't think that it will add a lot to the buyer long term that accurate keywords wouldn't do.

On a side note
Surely it wouldn't take long the agency long to sort out those fiji,hawaii multiple keyworded images. Simple search finds them.  I flagged a couple previous on dreamstime but got abused by the contributor. Won't be doing that again, I don't need people seeking revenge on me for correctly flagging their spam.

actually I don't see much sense in this...
maybe for the travel photos... but for the isolated objects I don't see sense to know the GPS coordinates and I wouldn't waste time to input them

I read an article recently which suggested that including Google maps on a webpage seemed to help the search placement of that webpage.  The Dreamstime crew is pretty savvy.  My guess is they are trying to take advantage of this.

I know it is only 17 days into March, but Dreamstime is currently leading all of my other agencies in sales.  If they finish #1, it will be the first time that has ever happened for me.  Regardless I am convinced they are gaining market share, and I wouldn't be surprised if plenty of that share is coming from Canada.
