Title: Dreamstime vs Google Lawsuit and why you should support Dreamstime
Post by: Charlene on June 06, 2020, 00:02
Dreamstime used to be the highest RPD agency. I used to get big sales from Dreamstime, but it plummeted somewhere in year 2015. My sales drop 1/3 and never recovered. I think 123rf, Canstockphoto, and others plummeted as well during that time and never recovered as well till this day. To save their own skin, 123rf implemented the new royalty structure which cut our commission greatly. Canstockphoto also increase vector price from $10 to $12, but still continue to pay vector artist $5 commission, instead of $6, and keep quiet about it.

The reason why Dreamstime (and other agencies) plummeted was because of this. https://www.shutterstock.com/press/12352 (https://www.shutterstock.com/press/12352)

However, Dreamstime continue to keep its promise to us. Dreamstime is perhaps, the truly honest and trustworthy one. As far as I know, they have not took our commission underhand through fishy affiliation programs. For all these years, Dreamstime have not reduce our royalties as well. So, I kind of love Dreamstime even though my earnings has dropped 3-4 times over the years.

Many contributors leave Dreamstime because the agency is no longer giving good return and focus on Shutterstock, instead. Dreamstime (and a couple of other agencies) are a victim of Google search ranking manipulation that favors Shutterstock and Getty.

For all these years, Dreamstime have not reduce our royalties as well.

Dreamstime cut royalties at least 2 times as far as I remember.
I remember the outrage in their forums.
Based on this history they will cut royalties again.

The rise in royalties now is a timely tactic which is working for them,
but the royalty rise now is temporary.

They lock your images for 6 months and their $100 payout threshold is the highest I know of.

My bad for not knowing this. But still, Dreamstime is the only agency that stands up to Google. The rest just concede.

In the recent years I keep supporting DT and upload all my images, but let's not forget the past and their shady deal with Google:

During the whole year I read only quite negative comments about Dreamtimes... And suddenly it would have become the best microscock agency in the world...

The same comment may be relevant to two different discussions...
But maybe it's too hard for you to understand that?

No, it is not. Spamming each discussion is not productive.
You have your opinion and I agree with it as well. Dreamstime or any other agency for that fact is not there to serve us. They are corporations that have no feelings. They serve one purpose - to make money for their shareholders/owners.

I remember way back when you searched a photo on Google the majority would have DT watermark, at one point (probably the one mentioned) it just stopped happening.

This is my only complaint about DT. With so few sales, it can take forever to get to that $100 point, even tho the RPD is higher than I see from others.

But for the last 2-3 months, DT has been generating good sales for me. I've no idea how long that will last, but I'm happy about it right now.

DT were one of the few sites to show really steady consistent growth for me for whole ten years, up until the end of 2016 when it has been falling off a cliff.

I would love to see them take off again!
