I think Dreamstime's strict policy of creating higher pricing by limiting variations needs revision.  Customers want variety and bargains.  The best art will rise to the top anyway.

DT is still drying up for me.  I think I will be at $50 for June, $65 for May.  That comes on the heels of $200 a month with an overnight cut, literally. As I've posted in previous DT threads, I wrote them to see what's happening.  They were kind in their response, but admitted that they changed the search to redistribute income to everyone regardless of asset merit.  That is pure C R A P. So all you have to do it submit junk and you too can make money, guaranteed (practically).  More and more contributors I speak with have all but given up on them.

As an aside, someone has the opportunity to really take the video business. With customers bailing on P5, they are going somewhere for their content. DT, or any agency, could make sweeping changes to re-invent the video model.  Right now, my trust in agencies is so low that I've lost all hope for any equitable returns.

It is high time DT lowered their ridiculous payout threshold from $100 to something more attainable like $30-50.

That would be nice, but I think someone on this forum already asked them a few months ago if they can lower payout threshold and apparently they said no way.

I upload each month about 100 photos. And guess what ? My sales are going down... Maybe if I not upload anymore my sales will go up, who knows ?!...

DT always was a low earner for me but never as bad as in the last month. I have 1 download $0.35 in the last 21 days. It's time for me to stop uploading there.

I wonder if they read these forums at all? I also wish they would lower their payout. Maybe if we all requested a lower payout it might happen?

Won't happen, as long as you've got under $100 dollars they get to keep your sales. Like modern banking there isn't a pile of money somewhere with your name on just waiting to hit the payout total.

If they lowered the payout to a dollar and everyone at $1-99 withdrew it would probably bankrupt them at this stage.

They could only do it if they planned in advance so you are probably right in the short term. SS managed to lower there's but then they are sitting on a cash mountain.

DT actually changed their search results page to display Best Selling first as of May, so not everyone gets an income any more. Mostly it will be the old timers of the site whose images have had the chance to generate sales. Buyers can change the search results to display by most relevant, which was the previous default, but most probably won't.

The way I see it is it's not really worth uploading there anymore unless you have something truly original, otherwise it will just go to the bottom of the pile, never to be seen again. I cancelled my exclusivity and may continue to upload once I have my portfolio up and running on a few other sites, but it is definitely taking a back seat for now.

I don't know, how it's with DT, but with other agencies, default search is what you choose it to be. For example, if I search photos on SS, and then click on "relevant" tab, the next time, when I will perform search, it will first show "relevant" images

Anyway being exclusive there and missing on Shutterstock is a crazy waste. I earn on SS ten times more then when i was excl on DT.

my earnings at DT are around 50% of what they were 4 years ago.
My number of sales have reduced but also RPD which was $1.40  now it's around $1

Subs use to get more money per download for higher level images
I use to get 50% commission on all credit sales.

I'm submitting to DT less photos per month than I did 4 years ago so some of the drop would be due to that.

The only people I see that are exclusive at DT seem to have around <1 sale per photo in the portfolio.

DT defaults to Best Selling (Used to be Most Relevant) every time you open a new web browser session, seems other agencies store your preference in cookies

Why, after uploading continually, do I not see sales for weeks, then a few in one go, then weeks without, then a few in one go, etc etc ?

This is their new way to ensure that sales get distributed fairly among all contributors.  Their model is not based on the value of your work and how much effort and quality you put into it.  Those who don't really care and upload crap get rewarded for that lack of effort.

Yeah, you've said it like 100 times before. We get it. But I don't believe that's the reason, since everybody is reporting lower sales. And search was cahnged (apparently) months ago. For me, disasterous sales are only for the last two months.

DT's traffic has been falling recently:

http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/dreamstime.com

Bounce rate is incredibly high at 59.3%, with page views at 2.93 (My personal site is 3.00, which goes to show how pathetic the DT page views are). Time on site is 2:32, which again is quite pathetic.

I believe they had a redesign for the public facing site recently, but it could be better and should have been done sooner. Once the user is logged in, the user experience is poor and confusing. DT has a lot of problems and I don't know if they can fix them before it's too late.

Yes, the site looks very dated. They need a complete overhaul. A site that sells design-related assets must look its absolute best.

I'm sharing this because there are NEW participants here every week. I am just trying to communicate what has been communicated to me by DT to new forum members. This isn't about you, so chill out.

I've been on DT since 2011 - my overall average is 62 DLs for about $68 per month.  Not too bad not too good either. I don't see a decline per say...

Definitely not for me! My sales are actually getting better and better at Dreamstime!

My Dreamstime portfolio is just 1084 images total and it consists of "Slovakia travel" images mostly. Nature, landscapes and historical cultural heritage sceneries, such as pictures of Slovak castles, medieval towns or outdoor museums.

I have sales almost every day there! I mean, for example today I had 4 sales, yesterday 6 sales, the day before yesterday 7 sales, etc. These sales are of various types, some are subs some are credit sales. Last month I had total 195 sales at Dreamstime! It was actually my best month ever there!

This year I had 385 sales at Dreamstime total, so far.

It seems that pictures of Slovakia are in great demand there recently, maybe because of Slovak Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Who knows? But, I guess, thats the reason.

Anyway, I am very satisfied with my sales at Dreamstime. I really can't say anything bad about them. :D

A reminder that you cannot always make sweeping conclusions based on your own experience for me DT is in slow decline but sounds like you have found an area in demand nice one :-)
