Title: DT nosediving in search engine referal
Post by: Read_My_Rights on September 15, 2010, 10:26
The percentage of visits to istockphoto.com that came from a search engine:

(http://traffic.alexa.com/graph?&w=400&h=220&o=f&c=1&y=q&b=ffffff&n=666666&r=2y&u=istockphoto.com&&u=dreamstime.com&u=shutterstock.com&u=fotolia.com&)

In my effort to see what has happened at other sites I compared the big 4 at ALEXA and something is horribly wrong with DT. Their traffic stats are nosediving since July of this year and their search engine referal seems to be the culprit.

Anybody knows what is going on?

I have no idea, but August was indeed a very poor month for me there.

A question: what is bounce rate? I see that in Google Analytics and don't know.

Its the percentage of visitors who get to your site, only look at one page and then leave again. A lower number here is good.

I don't think the percentage of visitors from search going down is necessarily a bad thing. I'd rather people went to an agency knowing where they were headed because they're regular customers buying images rather than random low-value traffic from google.

That might be true, however this random traffic can also mean prospective new clients looking around to see what's going on. This can end up creating some new accounts.

I mentioned that they have definitely stopped paying for some of the words they used to on Google  in the last few months.
I wonder if that is why?
