If every major agency would raise prices, buyers would take it as normal (they're getting huge discounts from day 1 anyway). In fact, quadrupling the prices would make them normal, barely normal, but at least they'd be in the "normal" area. Volumes would probably be split in half, but still, earnings would double ;)

There's nothing actually wrong with the prices that our images sell for; our real problem is the excessive commission that the microstock agencies take. The trouble is that we contributors have come to see such takes as 'normal'.

If phone app's can be sold profitably with only a 30% commission cut then so could our images.

I agree with you, but at the same time stand by my post. Getting full res images from 33c just can't be normal. As I said, volume would be (almost) split in half (half of the buyers would start stealing photos or start buying less), the other half doesn't have anywhere to go. Photos are not sold cheaper anywhere else than at MS agencies, it's not a normal state of the market (for instance macro buyers can turn to MS). In case both variables would change, our earnings would more than quadruple (of course that will never happen, so I don't even think about our royalty levels getting as high as 70%).

Sunday was one of the worst sales days for met at DT in a long time.  Almost entirely sub sales and a very small amount of them.  If this is a result of the pricing changes, making my pics too expensive for the typical buyer, than count me in the apparent minority as someone who sees the new price model as a very bad thing.  Anyone else see an alarming number of subs on Sunday?

Sunday was an "all subs" day - although two of them were at 70 cents on images mysteriously bumped to level 3 (one had 6 sales and the other 12). I know others have commented on it, but I find it beyond bizarre that there are days at DT with all subs - often during the week - every now and then.

If price increases on credit sales drive buyers to subs, that's a bad thing for contributors. I don't have a problem with a higher take at the end of the month from my portfolio, but based on the last week or two, plus DT's already very complicated pricing (if I were a buyer, I'd find that a turnoff), I'm not at all confident that it will increase for me.  Cheering over a price increase until you see what it does to your volume seems naive to me.

Weird.  Out of my last 20 sales, only 6 were subs, and only one was a 1 credit sale.  Others all earned good money.

Thank you - and I always admired Catherine Deneuve's classic elegance, so I'm heading in the right direction!

Lisa, my husband would tell me if he hated my hair, which he hasn't, so I assume... :) I think I'm going to go for the long gray hair (if mine would just turn gray enough to look gray), but the good thing about hair is how it grows again if you get fed up with long and cut it :)

12 out of my last 20 sales are subs (not all from Sunday, I might add!)

;D Catherine Deneuve, husband's preferences, going for long grey hair and then completely out of the blue sub sales :) . I'm just kidding Jo Ann. Great look!

I have 15 subs out of the last 20. They could at least give me ss quantities if they're going to do that to me  :D

I am "starting" to enjoy DT, hope the credits/1.4$ rpd continues but actually less sales than previous month and below average, that said I see DT stagnated for over a year, the only agency.. maybe there is hope!

I too saw a level 1 sale yesterday.  Wonder if it hasn't been fully integrated yet.

To be fair, gostwyck, 30% commission on the app store just pays for running the app store itself, with no profit. Said that, 50% cut would seem fair to run a business with healthy profit.

I'm sorry but, is this an irony?

editing my post, but will not delete question

you were right, for company that big, it's really small:

"Munster says the average selling price of an app in the App Store is $1.44. Of that Apple nets $0.18 after you account for credit card fees and storage/delivery costs.

Since the App Store launched, Apple has earned a net profit of $538 million on paid app sales, estimates Munster. It has spent an additional $246 million on storing and delivering free apps, says Munster, suggesting Apple's true profit is just $292 million. "

It is their secondary business.

Just got another L2 DL of a file with 7 DLs, that should be a L3. WTH is going on?!? Why don't they make it clear and tell us what affects level of the photo, wether it's going to be accordin to the new or old level system. And if they post it on their site, than every single DL should be in sync with this http://www.dreamstime.com/aboutimages

Yeah its all over the place at the moment.

Got some level 2 sales that previously would have been level 1, then got a level 0 today. Thought these were gone!?

I got a sub yesterday that was a level 4 on what used to be a level 3 image though it still says it's a level 3 image.

I agree that it definitely is all over the place and needs to be fixed across the board and all servers.

http://www.dreamstime.com/thread_31236

So there is a new lowest tier of commissions set at 20% ? Wasn't the previous new lowest tier of 25% for the then new Level 0 introduced not so long back. And the highest commission for the highest level images is now 45%, not 50%? Have I got this right?

A funny thing about simplistic generalisations that you may not realise, Wut.  They're never accurate for all people.
