I've seen a few posts around where people say they get very few subscription DLs on Dreamstime.
I just went through our last 200 DL on DT, and we have 30% subscription. We don't have more DL than previously, and our total income isn't increasing. In fact, our best month was August, and it's been less and less every month since then.
I was wondering, are we just unlucky? Or are other people seeing similar?
If anyone has time to go through their last 100-200 DL and work out the percentage, I'd be really interested.
I have always hoped that DT would change their minds on subscription, but am now giving up hope.
Serban did say that the database was averaging about 10%, and I wonder if some people are getting a lot more than others.
Thanks! Linda

I just did a quick analysis and found two things:

1. The percentage of subscription sales (as a % of total sales) will vary from one artist to the next.

For example, my overall subscription sales runs about 8% overall, but my referral's subscription sales run about 22% overall.  This confirms my initial suspicions.  It makes sense that certain images would be prime targets for subscriptions, especially those that buyers would want to purchase in the Maximum size and that have had lots of sales (and are thus at higher levels and cost).

2. Subscriptions sales (as a % of total sales) seem to be on the increase.

Subscriptions began just before the 2Q07.  In the first month or so, I would think that sales would have been low (since the word would have to get out).  I ran an analysis by quarter and found that subscriptions are on the increase.

My subscription sales rates (as a % of total sales) were as follows:

2Q07: 6%
3Q07: 6%
4Q07: 11%

This was also confirmed by my referrals subscription sales

2Q07: 20%
3Q07: 14%
4Q07: 27%

Perhaps I'm missing something I should know about regarding DT's statistics, but you can't go through your earnings list to get information about subscription vs credit sales after the fact.

The problem is that they show you the last time the image sold. If you sold one image 4 times in December, only the last one will show up in the summary list. You have to click on each image to see its sales history to pick up on the other image sales.

Then, for earlier months, you won't see anything for image sales if the image has sold subsequently - so an image sale for November won't show up in the list if that image also sold in January.

I was trying to count subscriptions vs. credits, and although I'm short some images (I just didn't have the time to click on each image to find the "missing" ones; you know how many are missing because of the monthly count of DLs, but not which ones they are), January so far has about 10% subscriptions and December was about 30%

However, my sales at DT have been poor for a long time. It's true that I have stopped uploading there, but they were in a serious decline before I stopped uploading for reassons I can't identify, but guess are related to changes in default search placement.

Some people have continued to do well at DT, but for me they're really not a major player any more. 21 cent subscription sales (from one of their partners) are the least of my concerns with this site :)

Thanks for these replies. I guess I have done more grumbling than most on subs, but from this information I feel justified.
You won't hear any more from me on this subject.
It's time for action :(

Without counting on an eventual duplicate sale as mentioned by jsnover, subs sales represent 15% of my sales this month.

My sales have dropped down seriously since few months in Dreamstime, except subscriptions sales.
I think that subscriptions sales are a pity.  0,30 for a picture.  I don't want this subscription sale.  I wrote them asking when will they gave us the opportunity to opt out. I am still awaiting for a proper answer.
I suggest that everyone wrote Dreamstime to have this opt out available.
Why, we, photographers do we have to sell our pictures for a pityfull 0,30 ??
I opt out at Stockxpert and Snap.  C'mon ! Photographers, wake up !
Don't sell your work for a stupid 0,30 revenue.

I suggest that everyone wrote Dreamstime to have this opt out available.

It was suggested when subs sales were announced there.  There were a lot of complaints and some suggestions (like limiting the size in subs sales) but DT management was inflexible with their model.  And it started paying 25c only.

Adelaide

i've had a few subscriptions but also lots of other high priced sales which are very welcome.  I think as a whole dreamstime is still one of my favorite sites.  The fact that subscription sales also boost up the level of the image is good thing and should bring more income to an image that has sold many times with subscription sales.

subscription sales are when a photographer buys a 'subscription' from dreamstime to download X number of images each month.

When the buyer downloads our images we get $.30.  If the buyer had purchased the images individually (with credits) we receive about $.50 - $3.00

$ 0.30 or less ! With third-party partnerships you can get $ 0.25 or even $0.21  >:(. Better to opt out Alliances partnerships.

On the contrary, this is my second best month there, and I had my first EL.

Subs sales are marginal and level 2 images still perform well.

I have only two Level-2 images at DT.  However I still manage to average over 70c per commission.  So I can't say the subscriptions are becoming too large a part of my overall sales.

January has been a great month for me at DT.  I need 3 more sales to set a BME at 26.  My goal remains to hit 50 sales in one month by the end of July.

1st sale  at DT in November
1    sale  at DT in December
6    sales at DT in January

I believe only one of all of the above was under .50
Two were sold for larger sizes so my take was $1.50 and another $2.00

DT is probably my favorite site overall :)
