yesterday our DL's were going a, nice and smooth one or two every hour or so.....

then all of a sudden- at about 12:30 they stopped and I haven't had any since..... which is sort of strange.

it's not just a slow down but a total stop........

anyone else having this?

or is it just, we're am not having any dl's? (which could be the case, but it just seems off)

Same phenomena for me: a lot of downloads yesterday and nothing today...

pretty good start this month, no problems, and even an EL today. So yes - it's you. :)

Not just you.... I just wrote about this yesterday or day before in another thread.....  I haven't had a sale at DT  in 11 or 12 days now.....    VERY unusual for me.  Maybe it's me...  except for SS and IS (which are humming along just fine)... I've been slow EVERYWHERE else...  who knows....   guess my stuffs gettin' old...  LOL  8)=tom

Another new one for me, an additional subscription sale for $4.  Any ideas what that is?

DT has recently been 'start-stoppish' for me, and sales has slowed quite significantly. Though this month looks to be improving a bit, just a bit, and it may stop moving again for a few days.  ::)

I have 250 images on DT, and sell 1 per week. Low.

236 images online.  I average a dld every 1-1.5 days.  Gladly few subs sales.  However, it has dropped as 4th place in earnings this month.

Hmm.  The frequency of subs sales has increased in the past week for me.  Anyone else?

If so, I wonder it it's a reflection of the increase in levels (therefore in prices) making subs packages more attractive to buyers.

Adelaide

Hmmm. 50 images online and up until a week ago I was getting DL's almost daily. Nothing in over a week.

hmm can't say i have had too many sub sales recently.  A few but nothing out of the ordinary.  I have noticed an increase in earnings the last week though - perhaps ebb and flow, or perhaps due to the increase in level pricing.

I've just said on another thread that I am getting more subs now but that the level  change has more than made up the difference and sales in general are very good there at the moment.

I think that just to correct myself, today I had many non-subs sales.  It's worth noticing that all were level 1 images (but then I don't have that many level 2 and up).

Adelaide

dt picked up nicely!

I think it was just a glitchy morning

it seems to me that a larger amount of level 1 images are selling, but i think that is a good thing, as I noticed a larger amount of my images are selling in general.  perhaps people are shopping around a little more and buyer 'older' images that haven't sold so much before.

DT always a very steady seller for me, but not any more this month since 10% of my portfolio became level 2 and level 3 and level 4, now, it's the worst month since last Dec despite doubling my images for the year:(

In case you haven't noticed, DT appears to have a 'rotation' element in its search engine.  This is why so many people comment that 'DT goes quiet for a couple of weeks, then takes off like a rocket'.

I imagine that the contributor base is growing faster than the customer base.  So, presumably to give everyone a fair chance, it seems that contributors are 'rotated'.  Of course I might be wrong and it might be images that are rotated.  Nonetheless, the rotation still applies.

A few months ago the rotation appeared to be 'two weeks on, two weeks off' but it now seems to be about 'two and a half weeks off, one and a half weeks on'.

Anyone NOT noticed this happening in their portfolio?

Because I plot my stats weekly I can see the rotation happening; I can almost predict when I am going to have good and bad weeks (I am in the 'bad rotation' at the moment).

I am in two minds about this rotation business; one part of me says it's a good and fair approach, the other part thinks it is denying customers access to good images when those images are rotated away.

On balance it gives most contributors a fair opportunity to sell, if they have the right images etc, and so long as my sales are on a broad upwards trend I try to be positive during those periods when it's obvious that my stuff has been put to the back of the queue.

Of course I have only been contributing to DT for nine months and I suppose it's possible that my files are still considered 'new'.  If the rotation is between 'new and old' it's possible that old hands won't see this rotation at all.  Would be interesting to hear comments from anyone who's been at DT for a couple of years or more.

I've noticed this phenomenon, too. My sales rate typically peaks around the $250 per month mark, then falls off a cliff to $100 before the cycle starts anew. Each time it peaks I hope in vain that it'll stay there ...

I have some intersting stats about the buyers/sellers ratio... It was 399 853 users (2 weeks ago) and 23 835 photographers. Now stats from 2 minutes: 425 790 users for 24 837 photographers...

When I joined DT in February there were only 13,000 photographers.

I joined 40 days ago, have about 400 images on line, and earned 16$. I have a sale every 4-5 days. :( That is low for me. I was hoping for something better. But I hope things will improve. :)

DT seems to take a little while to get going but is excellent in earnings/dl when it does.

Most of the sites do. IS just changed their Best Match results again.  ::)

It is called dilution!
More shooters and more images equal to less download per individual.
The last count was over 25,000 photographers.

well i am still pleasently please at how many images I have in the 'recently sold images' that just had their first sale.  To me, this means that people are seeing all images on the site and not just purchasing the same 1000 images over and over again.  Out of the the most recent 20 sold images, 4 of them (some of which were quite old) were images without previous sales.

Things like this don't happen too often on istock

Chode, I remember (I think it was Achilles) saying it takes about 90 days for a photo to gain momentum.  Although, very often I have quick downloads on recent uploads - then they sink for a couple months until they find their place.

I know you are comparing DT to your experience at FT, but I make much much more on DT with same portfolio.  At FT I get less than a third of transactions, and each individual transaction averages to 38 cents less than DT.  (If I could exclude the subscription sales, the difference in those numbers would be much greater.)

I have the same problem with FT. Very slow sales and a very large percentage of rejects. I am uploading less to FT because the viewers seem eratic and without logic.

Maybe my images just aren't a fit for DT. I've had rejections that are questionable (same images are accepted and selling at SS and/or IS) and sales are very poor. I sold more at Snapvillage than DT in November.

With FT I've had almost no rejections and it's slowly picking up momentum. Currently my #3 earner overall.

At DT last summer I went back and made sure the most important keywords were in title and description which helps in search relevancy (if you can figure out what your most important keywords are!).  I know that acceptance % plays a part in the search there too.

I had a gradual climb up at DT for the last year, then a steep upward spike in October, nearly doubling my income there, then November took a steep dive, cutting my income in half, and December has nearly ground to a halt.  I've been adding files slowly but very regularly, and my acceptance rate has increased greatly, but sales are way way down.  I wonder if they fiddle with their search engine like IS does?

How quickly things change. A couple of posts above I was saying there may not be a fit and today I get an EL which pushed DT back up to the #3 slot.

Seems like every time I post a complaint here within a day or two something good happens. Like magic.

So, maybe I should post a complaint every day...  ;)
