Title: Lower rotalties on Dreamstime?
Post by: Hildegarde on April 17, 2022, 08:35
I have recently had sales where I receive $0.30 ans $0.15.  Until now, all my sales were $0.35 or $2.00.

Anyone else?

I only had 4x $0,35 in April so far - nothing below that until today.

Nothing below 35cents.

Could this be a tax withholding issue?

I've had sales like that before, as low as $0,12.
These have been credit sales (XS size, so one credit, and at 25% royalty for a level 0 image = never sold before).
It seems that there are some highly discounted credits out there so we might end up getting such low returns.

But it's been very rare cases, less than a handfull in the last few years.

Now you folks made me look. Nothing except 35 cent sales since last year. None more, none less.

Could be worth posting on their Forum;  it is generally dead, but questions like this will get answered by one of their Admins

Even with a level 0 XS sale - where the image is older than 6 months with 0 sales - DT says one credit is "as low as" 77˘ in presenting prices to buyers. 25% of 77˘ is 19˘. Possibly there's more discounting going on that the pricing page is letting on?

I have had a sprinkling of credit sales in the last few months; only one was for an XS and that netted 34˘

On March 18th I had 2 sales for .16 each.
I reached out to DT whose reply was that it was my percentage of the sales price, and referred me to the earnings page. Which still in my opinion doesn’t explain the lower royalties.

A long time ago there were some very discounted credits being used - resulting in very low sale prices and even lower returns - especially for level 0 pics. If the credits never expire I am guessing there are a few still out there. Almost all sales are .35 these days - although I did have a $17.25 50 credit sale this month.

Mine this month are .35, .42 or $2.  Even back to the beginning of the year, nothing below .35, highest $5.79 (looks like a one-time sale XS image, 11 credits). I noticed that at least one image that has had 225 DLs & so is Level 5, still earns only .35 at the low end - I guess they must have done away with the levels earning more at some point? I don't really remember.

Yes, they stopped charging more credits and paying more for higher level sub sales a long time ago. The all too rare credit sales cost more and you get a higher percentage if they are a higher level.

I actually find Dreamstime compensation model fairly well worked out. Main problem is lack of sales, directly caused by years of total absence of any QA, which completely flooded the libraries with sub-standard content, similar, spammed metadata etc

Had a look, no below 0.35 sales. Mostly 0.35 and 2.00 this year. Thanks for the alert.

Thanks everyone.   Just surprised me because typically get higher.  Sales there are increasing.

Interestingly, I ended up in discussion with a woman who uses stock for the communications of local organization.  Dreamstime is the agency used, not the others.

On topic of Dreamstime,  they have these monthly contests, various subjects & chosen images get automatically promoted to level 5 (even if not one of first 3 places).  Criteria is reasonable. But this month they are running "Our Ukraine" contest and acceptance is quite rigid - only 15 images chosen so far, while it would be 150-200 by now in other contests.

This one just blows my mind;  I'd not be surprised if it wins
