Did anybody experience any kind of problem on metadata reading on recent uploads?
I just uploaded a batch of approx. 20 files and for some of them (20% approx) title was not read...

HELLO? Did you see the replies when you posted the same questions for SS?

What are you using to input the Metadata? What fields are you populating? Old Legacy software or newer XMP.

It's difficult for anyone to help when you don't include anything in the way of information?

Now that it's two sites, would you consider that maybe it's you, not the websites?

Pete you're right, but there are two different posts for two different problems...  :)

I'm setting up the value for "ObjectName" IPTC tag, but some of the photo seems not to have the data recognized, for other (most of the batch) data is correctly imported...

Wow that's never happened before...  ;)

"ObjectName" ? I can't even find that in any of the software. What are you using?

Here's one example that might help.

Where it says LR that's what LightRoom uses.

Here's what the XMP looks like in Breeze Browser.

I don't know if that's any help, but here's hoping.

That happens with my images as well - in DT sometimes the keywords are not recognized - but that does not happen with SS... Also, with 123RF the same story.

The thing is that I use the same software for all photos (which I developed, by the way, here is the link if somebody wants to try http://stockphototagger.sourceforge.net/), so I can conclude that the glitch is in their software. But it is not the big issue for me , as I can easily fill in the missing keywords from the software, it takes me a few minutes.

It also might be that I should use some other keys - for example:
- for title I use tags: ObjectName and Title
- for description: Caption-Abstract and Description
- and for Keywords just Keywords

Maybe I should add some more tags?

Interesting samards - do the TAGS make a difference on  the receiving end for what's read. What I mean is, does their system look for tags, to extract data and that's how it identifies the fields?

I think I have less problems because I'm using something that saves as XMP. I had some issues if I keyworded with that and opened in another software, sometimes the keywords vanished!

Pretty strange some days. For now it's fine and all sites I contribute to read the data perfectly, but I don't contribute to DT so I'm only trying to help with Metadata generalizations. If it's DT specific (even though mr said having problems with SS also?) then it's been interesting. I'm not much use.

Their system reads IPTC and XMP tags written in your jpg file. But there are many tags that can be written in JPG file for the same thing - for example tags Caption-Abstract and Description.

What I'm pretty sure is that SS reads ObjectName and stores that in Description field, and iStock uses tag Description for the same purpose. So there is a difference between different stock companies in way of using tags.

When I look at what Lightroom does - it sets all of this tags to the same value - and that's why both iStock and SS can read them.

In my software I'm also setting all of them (and I also can configure which tags to set for every field (Description, Title and Keywords). But, the problem is that although I set everything in the same way, some of my jpegs are not read correctly with DT engine.  And the other ones are read completely correct.

Interesting and educational, good luck. And if you can help "mr" that would be nice.

Yes as far as I have seen, XMP Document Title = Irfanview Object Name = Lightroom 2 Title the only difference is what software I'm using and what they call it, not the actual field. But now you have me wondering.

XMP Description  = IPTC Caption

Look at the 2nd image I linked? I don't see Caption-Abstract? What software uses that?

here's a repost from 2 years ago:

=====================
there are multiple fields that agencies pluck to use as title

the possible title fields are
iptc: objectname or headline
xmp: title or headline

i finally got data accepted at all agencies by adding the 2 iptc fields in exiftoolgui,  then using ' modify/copy to xmp' function
for microsoft pro photo tools, they use xmp title and ignore the iptc fields, using this, DT could not find a title

agencies where i had problems previously were DT, pond5, photodune, fotolia and 123 - possibly others - none of them ever responded to my requests to learn the exact fields they were using
========================
update
when my new camera included a copy of lightroom, i started using LR last spring and have no problems with any agency since.

If LR tags are accepted everywhere then the best idea is looking in exiftool what tags are filled in...

But my problem is that sometimes , for some jpegs, in DT and 123RF, the keywords are not recognized as well, not only title or description... So far , with SS and FT, I did not have any problems. So that might indicate that the problem is in DT and 123RF tool that captures tags. Again, that happens only with some of my jpegs...

Is exactly the same problem that I encounter: for the same image on FT is well-parsed, on DT title and keywords are missing...  :(
I keep trying to play with metadata to better understand which is the problem but i wasn't able to identify any logical explanation...
