Title: Need Urgent Advise
Post by: roman on August 01, 2007, 13:05
Hello;

I have recently sold EL on dreamstime.  I have suddenly discovered that the photo is being reproduced and sold on EBAY.  Here is a link... http://cgi.ebay.de/LIGHTHOUSE-Bild-H-60x90-sehr-athmosphaerisches-Design_W0QQitemZ170134958044QQihZ007QQcategoryZ19782QQcmdZViewItem
The photo itself seems to be the merchendise (print).  Is this all within the EL framework?  Thanks.

Seems like he can do this..:

Print Usage (P-EL):
Physical Items for Resale: includes the right to use the photos for t-shirts, postcards, greeting cards, mugs, mousepads, posters, calendars, framed artwork that is to be sold to other customers for a maximum amount of 10,000 copies (applies as a total of each type of usage). If this amount is exceeded you need to acquire this license once again. The new license will provide you with the standard amount of copies.
This is an additional license to the rights included within the regular Royalty-Free license. Note that the other restrictions still apply.

Maybe we should try that ourself, sell posters on ebay..

Wow seems this guy specializes on this, here is one from Eco: http://cgi.ebay.de/LION-KING-XXL-Bild-J-70x110-aussergewoehnliches-Design_W0QQitemZ170134986013QQihZ007QQcategoryZ8410QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
And we know this one: http://cgi.ebay.de/JUMPING-GOLDFISH-SINGLE-Bild-H-80x60-wirklich-witzig_W0QQitemZ170135002820QQihZ007QQcategoryZ8410QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
and this one:

And when looking at this guys ratings he sells plenty of our prints a day.. and that only for the German market...

The ebay.com market would be much bigger.

Anyone has experience with selling prints on ebay?

Well, doesn't that suck?  At least he had the decency to (seemingly) pay for an EL and it doesn't seem like he is doing anything contrary to the terms?  And it looks like he is giving proper credit to the photog as well.

No experience selling posters.  I think a.k.a. tom's wife if he is out there has a little experience on Cafe Press if I remember correctly.  Tom, is it worth the effort?

Freezing, a friend has an old Christmas card on her fridge of penguins and every time I go over there it catches my eye.  I think that some of yours might do very well as greeting card or wall art because of the uniqueness.  That iceberg and some of the penguins.  The penguins are a subject that we often see as an illustration rather than a photograph.  They are a bit of an enigma to the rest of us, aren't they?

Well actually he has a fine price for those large prints on canvas (they are on canvas I think)

10 EUR + 24 (!?) EUR S&H isn't that bad for a 70*100 print on canvas.

I think this is excellent.  It's a great compliment to those photographers whose work he has purchased; he clearly considers those images good enough to grace the walls of thousands of people's homes in the form of fine art canvas prints.

Good luck to him.

He's got 1500 feedbacks, and at an average of EUR 19 plus postage that's turnover of EUR 30,000.

A great idea.  Might do it myself.  It seems that this route to selling pictures could be far more rewarding finacially than some of the smaller stock sites.

And why are we not doing it together? Let's set up an ebay shop between all of us... SY

Just noticed, he displays images at 700x477px without a watermark, that might go against same tos. Just choose eco's lion as my new computer wallpaper, I hope you don't mind Nico ;-) But that means also everybody can save images and use them on web sites and blogs for free.... SY
