:o Holy cow. I went to submit uploads and I'm getting errors that they have KW limit of 30 now. I average 35-40. Their process is already too long. Now this?  >:(

I submitted some images yesterday and it was all good. So that's very new change.

I haven't submitted in weeks.  Anyone else can confirm this new limit?

Same here. It happened overnight. What a pain. They should;ve sent us notices so we could prepare ahead of time.

Confirmed. Step by step Dreamstime is losing me to other agencies. Once upon a time It used to be big. Now, only disappointments: one of the most boring and time consuming upload systems, slow sales, huge review times, now this... They should know that many of the contributors send to other agencies and keyword their images in IPTC before uploads. I, myself, have a lack of time available to delete 20 keywords per image in this already painful upload system... Now, I'll leave them there and if I have some time after sending to other agencies, maybe I'll take care of them... maybe...

If this is true than I am not submitting to DT any more. I wish I never reopened my account.

I honestly don't think they know there are other agencies. ???

i tried, 30 keyowords, this is unacceptable!  i will not adjust small agency, what are they nuts??

the only option is  every agency  goes to 40  keyword limit

blah.... angry

this is big  barrier

What barrier? 99,9% of photos are searched and found by the most relevant keywords. On SS where you can see by what keyword image was found, 99% of photos are found by the most relevant keywords. And that is like 5-10 keywords.

Beside that, every agency is saying, that 30 keywords is the most optimal. So, where is the problem?

That is information in hindsight, do you know which exact 5-10 keywords the customer is going to use? And do you want to miss out on sales because 1000ands of your images are not being found by the other not so often used keywords?

30 keywords to describe subject in photo is plenty. Others are probably even not relevant.

The only other site with such rigid requirements is Crestock. How good are sales over there?  :o

Depends on the pic. Sometimes it's hard to get ten, sometimes 50 is 'tight'.

Yes. And if you only have pictures of individual wild animals, it's easy to get 10. But we all don't create the same kind of images.

DumC: Look at this picture by Creatista and tell me if you can properly sell it with only 30 KWs (include conceptual and objective):

biker, nerd, laptop, geek, dork, plaid, white, hat, bar, european, tavern, adult, cap, male, bandanna, sweater, gang, digital, people, intelligent, caucasian, female, expert, technology, smiling, computer, showing off, expectation, grinning, cool, middle aged, beer, troubleshooting, shoulder, woman, group, motorcycle gang, smart, ironic, mature, fedora, clever, proud, eyeglasses, man, confident, watching, happy

By the way, the SS suggests we do keywording at their latest webinar (http://www.shutterstock.com/blog/learn-effective-keywording-in-our-shuttertalk-live-presentation), it is impossible to under 30 KWs for most pictures.

I usually stick to 50 keywords or less and try to go in order of importance so I can lop off the last few for sites that have tighter limits.   But to say any and every image can be fully described in 30 words is crazy.

Complex images with lots of diverse people and concepts can't be described in 30 words.  Not without leaving a lot of important words off.  By doing this DT are just encouraging people to send them their most basic single objects or persons on white and leave out uploading a lot of good HCV location people shots.

This will be another disaster like their restrictive similars policy.

Using your example, how many buyers searching using the keyword "beer" would choose this picture? Or would they choose an image where beer is the actual subject? Same goes for middle aged, expert, technology, plaid, white, hat, European, cap, male, bandana, sweater, gang, digital, intelligent,, Caucasian, female, smiling, troubleshooting, motorcycle gang, etc......you get the idea.

What they might search with and use this picture is "group of people around laptop" or "diverse group of people on laptop". I don't think any buyer would use a one word search and use this image.

I am not quite sure what the concept of the above image is supposed to be, but it is clearly more than just a group of people looking at a laptop.

The fact that it's a middle-aged nerd in a group of bikers at a bar drinking beer seems to be relevant and it distinguishes it from the more obvious business group around a laptop.

Dreamstime KW and categorization has been the WORST compared with other agencies, now reduced the limit to 30.
If they can loose the contributors this is the best way, what they done.
Sometimes 30 kw is not enough. Mostly I attach in Adobe Bridge 40 kws. Now i have to remove them maually when I uploaded huge amount of pics.
Fortunly compared with other agencies dreamstime is only 4-5% of my total earnings, so probalbly I will remove there my portfolio and focusing to SS, and Fotolia.

Looks like they have fixed it already! It was supposed to have been set to 50, and not 30  :)

It's back at 80 keywords now. Apparently there was never supposed to be any change at all.

"We are sorry about this. Due to a small bug (which is now fixed) the limit was set to 30 keywords. Everything is back on track now. Thank you for understanding."

Why do they never have "bugs" which increase my earnings balance?  ???

Ah, but then they would need to pull an iStuck and deduct your earnings over the next 6 years or months or whatever.  ;D

Many buyers use several keywords when searching for photos.  When you start using 3 (or more) keywords, the number of results start to get very thin.  If you want a picture of a nerd helping a biker gang with a website or something.. you'd need to use more than one keyword.  Yes, if someone wants a picture of a beer on white, they'll just search for beer and nothing else.  If they want people drinking beer in the summer in the back yard, they search for back, yard, beer, summer, man (possibly also bbq, party, relax etc) .. if you don't have all those words, you'll be missing out on sales.

Yeah, I saw they had edited their first post. They first said that due to a small bug, they couldn't set the limit to 50. Makes me wonder what they actually intended/tried to do....if anything  :)
