You might get more info on the DT forums. Here's a link to the many, many discussions on "should I check all the boxes for extended sales via licenses?"

You really will get more info on the DT forums. This is a question that is asked over and over and over in the forums by newcomers so you will find the answer there. MSG is a group of image makers that contribute to many of the sites, not just DT, and often not to DT at all so the quicker answers are on the DT forum. There is an estimated time that shows up in your pending queue. It has been taking at least a week, maybe up to 2. For example - http://www.dreamstime.com/thread_38863

Current wait time is 155 hours for inspection. That means roughly 6-7 days. That varies based on how loaded their queue is and how many inspectors they have actively inspecting.

As far as the check boxes are concerned, I check them all except "sell the rights". I've posted the explanations below but basically the WEL and PEl are resell rights.  They can use your image in a design and resell that design, but you get no further commission. PEL is the same, where they can print your image on something and then resell it without further commission to you.

I do not click on sell the rights because if a buyer really wants to buy you out they will contact you regardless of whether you have that box checked. The 10-15 times I did get an email I put out a price and never heard anything back from the buyers.  I believe that their expectations is that a sell the rights price should be in micro stock dollars....forget that. If they want to buy one of my earlier, crummy images I would sell the rights, especially if I have no or very few downloads.

Here are the explanations.

Web Usage (W-EL):
Electronic Items for Resale/Distribution: this license includes the right to use the photos for webtemplates that are sold to more customers, screensavers, e-cards, powerpoint presentations or as wallpapers on cell phones. Maximum number of electronical items is 10,000 copies (applies as a total of each type of usage). If this amount is exceeded you need to acquire this license once again. The new license will provide you with the standard amount of copies.
This is an additional license to the rights included within the regular Royalty-Free license. Note that the other restrictions still apply.

Print Usage (P-EL):
Physical Items for Resale/Distribution: includes the right to use the photos for t-shirts, postcards, greeting cards, mugs, mousepads, posters, calendars, framed artwork that is to be sold to other customers for a maximum amount of 10,000 copies (applies as a total of each type of usage). If this amount is exceeded you need to acquire this license once again. The new license will provide you with the standard amount of copies.
This is an additional license to the rights included within the regular Royalty-Free license. Note that the other restrictions still apply.

Sell the Rights (SR-EL):
This license represents a full ownership of the downloaded image. The buyer can use it exclusively (exclusivity applies from the moment that the file was downloaded using this license; buyer must take into account potential past downloads made for the image and choose it accordingly or investigate further via support), and include it in any type of design with just a few restrictions: sensitive subjects may still apply and the buyer may not claim that the file was created by him nor resell it as a photo. The agency will disable the image immediately after the buyer acquired this license. The photographer is required to disable the file permanently from all other places where he may sell it, as soon as possible after the sale occurred, but no longer than 72 hours. This license grants the buyer exclusivity so the photographer needs to keep in mind that an exclusive image is represented by concepts, models, wardrobe, and subject matter which provide a unique creative message and small variations in the image (variations in camera angle, model posture or gesture, for example) do not enable other files as being different. All such variations rendering the images very similar in concept and message to the one sold under SR-EL should be removed from sale as well. The photographer acknowledge and agrees to provide the buyer with full ownership for the file retrieved using the SR-EL license.

Time Limited Exclusivity (SR-EL1, SR-EL3):
This license represents an exclusive right to use the downloaded image, but such exclusivity will only last for a limited period of time. The buyer can use the image exclusively (exclusivity applies from the moment that the file was downloaded using this license) during the time period selected, and include it in any type of design with just a few restrictions: sensitive subjects may still apply and the buyer may not claim that the file was created by him nor resell it as a photo.
Dreamstime will disable the image immediately after the buyer acquired this license. The Contributor will be required to disable the file permanently from all other places where he or she may sell it, as soon as possible after the sale occured, but no longer than 72 hours. The Contributor acknowledges and agrees to provide the buyer with the exclusive right to use the file retrieved using the SR-EL1 or SR-EL3 licenses, for the duration of the selected exclusivity period.
The length of time for the exclusivity period depends on which license is selected. SR-EL1 will grant an exclusive right to use the image for one year. Similarly, SR-EL3 will grant an exclusive right to use the image for three years. The print run for both licenses is unlimited and continues after the exclusivity expired. At the end of the exclusivity period, the buyer`s license will continue as before, with all of the same rights, except for the right of exclusivity, and the image will again be added to the available library of images on Dreamstime.com and again be made available to all users for purchase. After the end of the exclusivity period, the Contributor will also be free to offer the image for download from other places where the Contributor sells his or her images.

If a Model Release is available on file, it will remain within our database, a proof about its existence can be forwarded to the buyer, however, the MR info will still not be disclosed in respect of the photographers' and models' privacy.
These are additional licenses to the rights included within the regular Royalty-Free license.

For any other details regarding usage or these licenses, you are strongly advised to contact Dreamstime.

Mantis, you are very gracious and patient. I guess I'm amazed at how many newcomers fail to read the terms and conditions on any site before they plunge in. Everything you posted is available on the agency's site and all sites offer similar explanations. Perhaps in this modern age of instant everything people do not try to find any answers on their own. Perhaps it is a language problem but what you posted is what can be read on the site in English. I've also noticed new joiners upload and then complain when their images are not sold fast and for big money. They don't know what microstock is and they don't bother to read everything they can before joining. I'm getting old and crabby.

I know and I agree with you. I had a moment of reflection when I first started out 8-9 years ago when I was posting at IS and SS trying to find quick answers. So it's just a way I can 'give payback' for those who did step up and help me even  though the questions were so newbie.  I recall one time I was trying to figure out the 24meg requirement at Alamy and how to upsize to that value. I got a lot of, "everyone asks that" from forum members but one stepped up and gave me step by step instructions. I really appreciated it so I guess I had a moment and decided to make a post. Nothing against you at all. Just felt like helping someone out is all.

Now, after 8 hours since that post, I got a flat tire on the way to Target and nobody stopped to help me. I busted my hump getting that heavy tire changes, got all greasy and filthy after a hot shower, so I am back to being an old grouch. FU to ALLLLLLLL.....not really.

Grace, before asking another question, how about starting off with something like this: Thank you, Mantis! That helped me a lot!

You are very impatient. You asked this in the DT forums too and were given an answer. Image approvals have nothing to do with tax forms. Tax forms only have to be submitted if and when you reach the payout amount of $100 but the sooner the better. The tax percentage taken out of your profit after the sale of each image depends on your location and your submission of the correct tax forms. Image reviews are taking a long time for everyone, not just you and it has nothing to do with the tax forms.
