I really welcome it! Finally an agency is showing they are taking copyright infringement seriously. And it's simple too, you just enter image IDs and send it.

If also Alamy had a similar tool a lot of people would have been happier!

Off topic sorry: Why do you bring up Alamy? What happened? I haven't heard of copyright issues there (I'm sure they have some but is it that bad?).

I bring up Alamy because I found an image in use with Alamy copyright, but it doesn't shows in my sales. I asked them here http://www.alamy.com/forums/default.aspx?g=posts&m=132457&#132457
Since Alamy seems to have a lot of this problems I wish they'll follow DT politics.

Sorry again for derrailing...

Thanks for posting that link to the Alamy forums. I don't follow them that much but it's nerve wrecking to see images in use and no report of it.

Other agencies that work with newspapers do send out notifications to the photographer that an image has been downloaded but it might not be used so it's not sure if it's going to go through as a sale. At least you know which image it is and you can use Tineye und Google images to do reverse check...

Here is my first experience with the infringement report form:

I found a DT thumbnail with a DT watermark of one of my pictures used on a Facebook site. First I sent this finding via the standard contact form, getting a reply that I have to use the newly established infringement report site. Ok, I started:

First I had to enter the ID of my picture in the DT database. Ok, that was easy.
Then came another page up where DT is asking for several mandatory information:

1. A link to the website where the picture was found - so I entered the link to the Facebook site.
2. A valid email address of the infringing party - luckily I found one on the Facebook site. But if you can't provide an email address DT will not process the report because you can't complete the form. what?

Next day I got a reply from DT, named "DMCA Request - refused". Oh dear ...

1. It said that a certain link in my information was not working. The link in question was a link I never entered into the forms, it pointed to some unknown website not related with Facebook at all - I have no idea where DT took this link from ...
2. It then had a section with my report details. In this section my entered link to Facebook was shown but malformed due to some added http:// before and therefore also not working.

So basically you can report a potential misuse of picture to DT - practically it fails because the report script is probably broken and working wrong, sending or saving information you have never entered, includes broken links and finally asks for mandatory information like a valid email address which in many cases you can't even provide ...

Well, I won't report misuses of thumbnailsimages with DT watermarks anymore. It's PITA and not worth the effort.

I used this service and everything worked just as it was supposed to. They investigated, returned the form to me with this message, "Following the DMCA notification sent, the image in question has been removed or licensed correctly." I checked, the image was no longer on the site. Worked for me, your mileage may very.

Wow, that's great news. Maybe they were still working the bugs out when lathspell had issues.

I was going to report an infringement but couldn't locate an email address, so I wasn't able to do so.

This is usually a good site to figure out who's hosting the site and usually the owners information. The Internet is not a secret.

Very nice... Goint to try it out with some of my images. But the form wants the infringers email adress, what if I can't find any?

You mean there's a website and they have no contact information. Now there's a warning sign to start with. Who creates a site and doesn't want to be contacted?  ;D

Look at the WhoIs Registration there's often an email address. Again, if you can't find the person who is registered, you can write to the HOST. Maybe that's jumping up the chain a bit, but they are usually responsible for what's held on their servers. And believe me they know who it is and their email address. Someone pays the bill and someone pays for the domain name registration.

Funny that you reminded of the old days when "sysop@<sitename>" was a very standard default address, now I don't even see the term much anymore. admin@ or administrator@ is a nice guess but if they are using the default forwarding, you could write to anyname and it will go to the catch all mailbox. Big sites, "abuse" is very common for reporting problems. Makes me want to add SysOp to my mailbox collection on my website. LOL

Good luck!
