Title: Sell Rights?
Post by: Steve on September 28, 2008, 09:16
To be honest I'm a bit hesitant to upload to a site with a checkbox to offer to sell all rights.  Not that I wouldn't do it, but I'd want something equivalent to a sale of all rights in the macrostock world, maybe around $20,000 to $50,000 an image.  I suppose I could prices in, but anyone willing to pay that kind of money will probably get a hold of me anyway.

I just find the suggestion of selling all rights for $350 a bit insulting.  That might be good earnings in the microstock world but it's about one non exclusive RM liscense macrostock.  Does anyone have any experience with this "feature"?

You can change that price, put in $20,000 if that's your rate.

Its extremely rare to even get one for $350 so good luck with a price of $20,000.

You don't have to check that checkbox at all, you know...

I will all put mine to 5000$ shortly. That's the price for making me delete the images from all agencies. I'm very lazy :)

Also, don't forget that you actually get only 50% of the price that is set for selling the rights (or 60% for an exclusive image).

I have sold the rights to one of my images on dreamstime. I was shocked and I wasn't intending on it. I did get the full 350 but the hassle of removing the image from all other sites (especially crestock, it is STILL on there even though I hassle them with mails) is a drag. I always uncheck that option from now on.

The cash is nice but consider what an image is worth to you.

I set my buyout prices pretty high (but not as high as 20K) as like many of you I too am concerned about removing the images from other sites. The one that puts me off is BS and three month waiting period  of them.(in that case DT is even worse with 6month deal)

please DT and BS Crestock  you should adopt instant removal of images too  if the cost of the review is the concern they could introduce a penalty fee for removing images (like  1 credit or sth) before the defined period ends so it should cover the review expenses?

eta:btw way  not that I complain but I don't really understand why would a buyer want to buy the rights of an image that had  previously   sold(possibly many times) with and RF license, which means they don't get the exclusivity for the image if that is what they were after.

By the very responsive replies I always got from BigStock staff, I think that in such situation they would delete the image if we request.  I never asked this, but if you explain the reason, I think they would not pose a problem.  They might if you ask to have all your images removed.

But then there is always the solution of waiting 90 days before you set them for Sell the rights at DT.

I never opted for this.  I don't think I have anything someone would so desperatly buy.  :)

Regards.

Adelaide I am sure they'd be helpful in such cases but it still means you have go through all the "red tape". You have to e-mail them and request a deletion  you have to explain why etc etc...
and waiting for the 90 day to end and going back to files to opt in also involves in awful a lot of work
I don't know if I ever get chance to  sell rights of an image on DT but I don't understand why they are so insist on such restrictions

I only put images up for 'sell the rights' when they are exclusive to DT.  The few that I have got I have got at 6 or 7 thousand dollars.

I was considering putting that on all my lazy images. You never know your luck.

if you go to manage licences you can set the price for all images (or in my case have it turned off). Interesting though when I just went a double checked that it was off :) I noticed that was different recommended prices for different images?

The prices change depending on the success of the image.
