New exciting news!  ::)

No one commented on their front page announcement (June 23rd) but here it is:

"Our Royalty Free goes Limit Free! We're happy to premier a new, limitless Royalty free license that allows you unlimited print copies for any media downloaded under our standard RF, commercial or editorial. Previously acquired RF licenses can be upgraded by the purchase of a new license for the same media."

What a crock of crap  :(

Don't several sites already offer this anyway?

So there's no compensation for contributors for the extra rights they grant to a standard license? Pay the same, receive more, screw the contributors, is that it?

And not even grammatical. It should be premiere, but better 'introduce'.
But yes, one more step in the race to the bottom.

See Sean Locke's thread on the DT forum

Eitherway DT have now been relegated to the do not upload to pile.

I just posted in that thread - I hadn't noticed this either.

I'll have to think about whether this is worth leaving over (I no longer upload as it's clear the agency is in decline), but I could at any time as I have no content newer than 6 months.

They edited the title of the thread. :(

Not even an email to the contributors. Most people probably don't know about this change.

I did not know about it until reading this forum. I'm so disappointed. I worry other agencies will try this ...

DT is now short for Desperate Times.

Interesting how Achilles says that it is important for customers, they want it, but very few of them will use this option.

If very few of them will use this option, why implement it? And I can go further by questioning the claim that "we made the decision based on what our customers want."  Well, customers want free imagery.  And that is certainly the direction DT and other MS companies are going in.

I also agree wholeheartedly with Sean regarding this comment: the print industry struggles a lot. One could make that claim about most other industries who use images to promote their business. Blogosphere, retail, travel, and so on.  So while they resell one's work the artist gets his/her .35 cents, or whatever. And we're supposed to be happy with that? I also call BS on his statement that our overall royalties would go down if he didn't make this change. This is likely based on assumption.  I assume, so therefore we are giving away even more of the goods.

DT is struggling and this move was nothing more than a way to appease one or two big customers.

guys, do you understand this one thing? If you take a look into Terms (https://www.dreamstime.com/elterms.php#extended [nofollow]), there is, quote:
"Increase Max Copies (I-EL): ... This is an additional license to the rights included within the regular Royalty-Free..."
"Web Usage (W-EL): ... This is an additional license to the rights included within the regular Royalty-Free..."
"Print Usage (P-EL): ... This is an additional license to the rights included within the regular Royalty-Free..."

So did they eliminate all the ELs except for U-EL, or I misunderstood something?

yes they did, but the same way they eliminated W-EL and P-EL. I can't post the link as I'm newbie on this forum, so here's a screenshot

You're misreading the text. What they say is that the ELs buy you additional rights. The rights included in the RF license are still there, but the EL lifts restrictions or adds new rights.

Good thread.

It's worrying that they did not inform us. Limit-free is good for the buyer but for us it means just less income.
It's always less and less for us!! We can't just wait and see where this is heading. DT is a sinking ship.

Now it indeed is time to make a decision about DT and let them know about it.
