I can't find the answer on the DT forum - but once you get the email about an old (more than 4 years) photo, how long do you have to take action before it winds up in the free section by default (which I don't want)? I guess if push comes to shove I can still go and deactivate in the free section....

You can read it in the mail you will receive from DT. You have one week before the pictures will automatically converted to the free section.

You can set the default action to delete instead of moving them to the free section.
Should be possible here (http://www.dreamstime.com/oldfiles.php).

You technically have 30 days, but I deactivate immediately, reprocess and rekeyword and resubmit. And ironically unsold images have then sold so if the image has potential id resubmit.

This whole policy of deleting old images is a bit strange.
Today I sold an image for the first time that was approved in November 2008. They somehow missed it in their clean-up actions.
That's why I would never delete old images on my own, if not forced to do so.

They weren't deleting for a few months, but they started again - it does seem like an odd policy to me, but there are a few odd things in this business.

Does anyone know where i can see the images that are going to be deleted. I've lost the email and i cannot see them under the Contributers area.

make sure you set the default to deleting the images.

They weren't deleting for a few months, but they started again - it does seem like an odd policy to me, but there are a few odd things in this business.
asaik it's unique among agencies -- all the other agencies are more interested in boosting their total # of images by any means, so DT should get some credit for taking this approach

Just deleted a photo with no sales in 4 years at DT. I don't mind cleaning up photos with little sales potential, but this photo has sold 67 times on another site.
0 sales at DT vs 67 sales elsewhere makes no sense, think it must do with lack of marketing at DT.
I have deactivated old images immediately, but there are 30 days to choose what to do. Make sure deleting is your default action (it would make no sense to give images free, if you are selling them on other sites).

Hi all,
I'm a bit puzzled as I logged in today and noticed that the two action options I can select for my image with 0 downloads are "donate free" and "keep online".
Not long ago they were donate free and disable the image.
What does this mean?? If these are the options who would want to donate them free?
BTW, this image has 506 views.

That's new. A week ago you had to donate or disable. There was some grumbling on the forums about old editorial photos that didn't sell being more desireable as time goes on (cars and such) so maybe they changed it. Perhaps it is now just an alert to force you to make a decision to delete them on your own. I was kind of happy to see old files go since there are sooooo many on the site(s). No one wants to delete their non-sellers but many complain that there are too many images. That was in a thread I started about this http://www.dreamstime.com/thread_37221 (http://www.dreamstime.com/thread_37221) as I was starting to see my editorials being consigned to death row (having joined Dreamstime just over 4 years ago). Great news to see they have listened and changed the policy on this. It's nothing new (especially for editorial images) to get no action but then suddenly become relevant and useful when someone or something comes into the news.
This change still gives people the chance to review their old files and take what action they feel best -but without the enforced death sentence. Good move. Regards, David.

Maybe they've changed policy and the email is now just a reminder for us contributors to go in and either manually kill the image or re-keyword it. I like the option because I usually reprocess and upload again anyway. For the images that I want to reprocess, I will just delete them and do it again. I lose nothing....except one KEY thing......DT says that your positioning in their search is partly related to your sales, so having a lot of non selling images can hurt your overall search position. Not sure if this holds water but.....
