Author Topic: What's going on at Dreamstime ??? (Read 9138 times)

Hi,
since january it's nearly impossible for me to get a picture accepted at dreamstime

My acceptance ratio broke down to round about 10 % for the last months (last month it was even 4.5% !!), while at other agencies I have a nearly stable acceptance ratio between 65 and 85 %.
Pictures which were rejected at dreamstime because of "bad composition" sell well at others. For some rejected pictures I receive actually the reason that the lens I used is bad (seems to be a new reject-reason, I've never seen this before) and show CA's and artefacts, while the same pictures were sold at other agencies. I don't know what's going on here and also don't know what to do against it. I'm very frustrated and angry.
Has somebody of you made the same experience?

I have had the opposite experience. My acceptance rate is 78% now, it was closer to 50% when I started uploading. I don't bother uploading photos that I know they have a lot of. That helps.

I have had the same experience, it's darn hard to get a pic up and the rejections can be disheartening to say the least with the added frustration of seeing rejected pics doing well on other sites.

Sometimes it's really hard to figure out, but just plod on I suppose!

yeah, my rejection rate at DT has gone up a bit recently.... rejection doesn't bother me at all... but, I have to say, a couple of the recent ones did surprise me.... I figure if I can get it on SS and IS... I could get it up anywhere... but... that theory got shot to heck.
On the other hand, I seem to be selling quite a bit of "old" stuff on DT. Things I posted months ago that never sold, are selling now? Any clue? or just coincidence?

Yes, life has got toughter at DT; they are becoming more selective; it the longer run that's good. I too have a 78% acceptance and I'll do must best to preserve that because I think 75% comes into the search thingy. It's a question of only uploading quality.

Funnily enough SS used to be the 'difficult' agency, with lots of poeple complaining about 'noise' rejections; but SS has been good to me; in 250 submissions they have only rejected 7 shots.

About 'old' pictures: I recall reading a post on the DT forums that there is a 'three month rule' at DT; pictures need to be there for three months before they sell. Whether that's true or not I don't know but my own experience suggests that for some reason that is the way it works out.

I don't know about that,Hatman, I can say that isn't true in my case... I've had stuff go up and sell within a couple days on DT. Who knows where that forum comment came from ....

Modify: I just went to check hoping I didn't have to eat my words.... I don't... sold a picture on the 14th that I only uploaded on the 9th. so... that rumor doesn't always hold true.

I'm just new in Stockphotography, I only have a few pictures now on Fotolia, Bigstock and Istock.
Now I'm also trying dreamstime and I have the feeling that the pictures that I uploaded at Dreamstime seems to appear a little bit darker and duller than they are on the other sites. I'm uploading the same files. I tested it with one picture. I allready sold this picture at fotolia but it was rejected at dreamstime for lighting problems.
I hope that it will not happen to every picture I upload at dreamstime..

I have 93% acceptance over the last month. But that is only due to trial and error in previous months. Nowadays I don't upload anything to them where its an isolation and the 'object' could be interpreted as being less than 3Mb; I also don't upload anything that might be a similar 'theme' to previous rejections (my series of passport arrivals and departure stamps sell very well at SS and IS but all got rejected by DT so I don't send them that stuff any more).

This week I had a chocolate red mobile phone isolation rejected with a 'thanks, we have enough of those' and they also rejected an Australian kangaroo road warning sign with the same excuse - so they won't be getting my complete set of Australian road signs...........

I find the reviewers can be very different at DT I am currently working through one set of illustrations that are derived from some of my previously accepted illustrations.

I have sent a few batches of ten or twelve images at a time and either the whole batch is accepted or the whole batch is rejected for poor execution. rather frustrating I will wait until i have finished then ask admin why?

I am finding DT are more picky than iStock for my photos

I concur.

What I like about IS.... when I get a rejection, 9 times out of 10, they even send me a clip of what they object to in the image. I'm also (like all are) invited to resubmit after correction. I have never had a resubmit shot down. I would assume this is true for everyone..
With most other sites your rejection is more or less "this sux, go away".

Have you tried appealing the kangaroo sign or anything else? I had an entire batch of rosemary rejected for too many on site, but when I searched afterward I only found eight. I wrote support and they took five of them.

I tried the tip to sent a small batch with bad photo's after a batch with good photo's. And guess what, all the three "bad" photo's are accepted. Funny they where all rejected on the other sites. And from the good batch they rejected the photo's that are selling on the other sites.
It's difficult to understand what they want on dreamstime.

Hey all, I'm new here (I just registered, although I've been looking around the forums for a couple weeks). Anyway, I wanted to chime in here because my acceptance rate at DT has been quite good (only 2 rejections in my last 50 submissions). The problem I'm having these days is that nothing is SELLING for me lately. I only have about 180 photos up there (I'm hoping to be over 300 by the end of the summer), but I still got DLs pretty regularly. But lately? I haven't had a single DL in the last couple weeks! I know this is a slow time of the year, but I would have hoped SOMETHING would be selling a little bit here and there. Has anybody else been going through this on DT? Istock has been slow for me, but not that slow. And Shutterstock has been reasonably good lately. Thanks in advance for your replies.

I certainly have my problems with DT, but not with the inspections. I shoot mostly nature and always will. I upload what I have and let them choose what they want. I expect rejections from all the sites. I do like that they will generally accept my artsy, processed work. They don't sell a lot but they make me feel good.
