what happens when you submit exclusive photo to DT?

I dont have any excl. images at DT. Is it true that they pay you 2$ if they accept the image? What about % of payment per sale?

I am not sure about the 2 dollar  thingy, never heard of it(though I might have missed sth)but when you upload an assignment photo to DT  they offer you usd 25  for the rights of the image or you may choose it to be higher level images.in any case it has to be an exclusive image.
also if you had an editorial image accepted  they'd pay usd 5 but I am not sure if it is still the same.

I believe it is .20 per image uploaded, but only for exclusive photographers, not exclusive images by independent photographers.

I think you get 60% of an exclusive photo sale at DT .

Whereas at Fotolia for newbies the difference is bigger 33% (non-exclusive) 50% (exclusive)

I suppose as the agencies get fussier about accepting images it may become more important if an image is only accepting at one of the major sites.

Aurelio, just curious, what is your gripe against dreamstime?  You have complained about them both here and on their forums but I haven't read anywhere what your specific problem with them is...?

Maybe money ?
At DT you can be exclusive, win assignment contest and for level 8 high res (16MP mage) still earn $0.36 ! Yes, it's a joke.

Dear Lisa maybe you have good experience with DT, but I don't have. I have to many subscription sales in last few month, generally sales with  them are so low comparing competition.
I cant change the keywords! Many of my images been keyworded by DT keyword masters and now i can't change any of them because someone reported bad keywords, waisting of money!!
I wrote to them few times to change my username which is by typing mistake Airelio (should be Aurelio) and nothing happen.
They dont want  let me to leave , they have to keep images for at least 6 month as they said to me they are so strict about that rules. Another thing for closing account, any other agency will close you account if you ask them by email or  something, on DT you have to disable you images one by one, for someone like me who has more than 3000 images its really time consuming, you think thats fair?

Chode -

I think like anything else, the truth is probably somewhere between the extreme opinions.  In general, provided you submit to the major sites (and I know you do), I don't see much point in offering an exclusive image despite the increased commissions, as you can make much more money by offering it in multiple locations.  Some exceptions to the rule are:

1.  A few of the major microstock sites turned down the image, but you still feel it is high quality.  In this case, why not offer it as exclusive to a company which accepted it?

2.  It is a niche image which tends to work well at a certain site, but not so well elsewhere.

3.  It is an editorial image, which you can only submit to DT and SS among the major players.  In this case, I submit editorial sports to DT and have been very happy with the results.  The added commission is nice, and reviews are much quicker.  One of my images was chosen for Editor's Choice, and is on pace to be my best seller there.  Even at Level 1, sales on the image have been generally $1.20-$1.80.  I cannot wait for it to hit Level 2, 3...

Nice thing about exclusivity on DT is you can specify exclusivity after the images has been accepted.

DT and SS are the only microstocks that take editorial pics.  So if DT takes an image that SS doesn't, I mark it after the fact as exclusive.  Unfortunately, that doesn't happen too often.

2.  It is a niche image which tends to work well at a certain site, but not so well elsewhere.

I have an illustration that was selling well at DT and never sold anywhere else, so I made it exclusive.  It hasn't been selling lately, but anyway I got some good extra money with it in the past.

Adelaide
