Please recommend any camcorder or video camera for 4K. I already have a DSLR, shooting video with that is problem with the Battery. My DSLR shoots only HD. Looking for something not very expensive, the beginners budget or medium size cost.

Panasonic GH5, Sony A7III, BMPCC4K if you have the budget. If not, maybe a Sony AX100 or a Panasonic G7. Just some suggestions, I'm sure there's some better options, but I know they shoot good footage.

Maybe the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K. (not very expensive and good priceperformance ratio)

I can also vouch for the a7iii. Very happy with it. Even the kit lens isn't too bad but I also bought a cheapie adapter for my Nikon glass. No autofocus with the Nikon glass however which is a downside because the AF with native Sony glass is outstanding. I have to admit though I have my eye on the Fuji X-T3. The video specs look pretty amazing with 4K 30p at 400mbs and 60p at 200mbs. The Sony doesn't do 60p in 4K at all which is a definite negative for me.

Speaking on a budget, a simple camcorder around $1000 would do the average 4K job with good day or home/studio light. Sony and panasonic ones are the most common consumer ones that "pass" the "tourist, let him pass" test vs the " do you have clearance?" rigged dslr or mirrorless bodies. Stabiliser plus zoom included leading to less weight. Spare some money for a slider a tripod with video head and other "hidden" needs you will come up as faster bigger cards, batteries chargers and external HDDs for (bigger) backups.

If it goes well, you like video work and off course sell you can always upgrade to a semi or pro model :)

Thanks dear all for your responses.
I was thinking to keep the DSLR and video camera separate from each other. That is the reason I was looking for pure video camera and Black Magic seems a decent choice. However, the cost wise, upgrading to D850 makes sense if over $1200 money is being invested in video camera.  Because the old nikon DSLR will be upgraded to D850 for image work. May be it can work for video and images both. However, the mental itch will remain  :) ;D ;D

Finally ordered one Panasonic HC-WXF995M 4K Ultra HD Camcorder with Twin Camera. 991K model is not available in my country. I checked the specs. It looks great camera with amazing possibilities. I will get it in my hands either on 10th or 11th June.

I received the cam and tested it well. Now the first 7 4K vidoes have been submitted to several agencies. Going 4k is certainly a journey itself. My laptop did not work with Premier Pro and everytime I tried to export Mov, it crashed. The mp4 format export was too slow. Its an old laptop with 8GB RAM. Switched from premier pro to hitfilm express. It did good job. The denoise feature is missing. Everything else is lite and good.  I am using free version which is full studio. Works well with my laptop. The newest issue I am dealing with keywording videos as stocksubmitter did not embed keywords in videos like it does for photos. For now, dealing manually and filling on the sites itself. I hope to figure out the better way of dealing with keywords on videos.

I appreciate hearing your experience in switching to 4K, both right now and going forward, since I plan to do this to at some point and know that I'll need all the help I can get.

Hope you'll let us know how the sites respond to your first submissions.

Good luck in your 4K journey and please do keep us posted!

I really don't mind pay for play, I don't mind paying once for a program, but the current cloud situation for Adobe products is nothing more than extortion. I dropped them a while back.

That's precisely why I chose Apple's Final Cut Pro for my video editing software, rather than Adobe's Premier Pro. With FCP, I paid once and that's it. Apple even updates it without charge.

I do pay the ongoing fees to Adobe for Photoshop and Lightroom (for my photos), plus InDesign (for my books). But I do wish Adobe would go back to its previous business model where the user buys the product outright and doesn't have to pay a licensing fee forever.

I have use adobe software only for my stock work. Adobe agency was last year my best agency, this year on third place and still falling.. total disappointment!  But now I thinking to leave adobe software too. I earn at adobe few bucks a day with 10k images!? Big joke!

I think the phrase is "the devils advocate" that someone have to do.

Teamwork and remote editing sometimes require cloud services.
Not saying that they are necessary or irreplaceable, but,
R&D costs. Just yesterday i was reading that Adobe developed
a (useless for me, perhaps useful for other people or purposes)
AI to detect photoshopped faces through liquify or something.

Thinking back CS3 to CS6 suites, there was a vast jump forward in cloud apps.
Talking only for Pr and Ae, i have no clue on PS and Lr advanced or new functions.
Those improvements and cool features are still "low cost" as long as they can be "leased".
It is the competition that drives Adobe to be thinked as " high priced" services
and the whole "free" culture.

Please don't rush to argue on the last sentence above, this is what also kills stock, right?

The first production of 7 4K videos have been accepted by Adobe, Shutterstock, 123rf  and few others. So far there are no rejections. These test videos were shot in low light and objects were illuminated by table lamps. I expected unacceptable grains while shooting. I did not need to denoise any of them. The clear day shots will be awesome. Did not get the chance to shoot in day so far. Life had been busy with day job, I will be hitting the available weekend this week. I plan to go out and shoot some non-nature videos.

I figured out the video keywording software. Xpikes is doing good job with videos too.

Next problem to solve is to produce the mov files for istock. Mov files are bigger than mp4. The generation of mov file is too slow and too long. will have to figure out.

Anyone aspiring to venture in to footage, may find this thread good to begin with. So far, I think, anyone can replicate what I am going through and expect the same results. Yes, the money will too follow soon.

Thanks for that feedback and encouraging information.

I welcome your future reports as you shoot more 4K and learn more about the processing angle of it.

Wishing you continued good results!

You shouldn't have any issues attaching keywords to videos with Stocksubmitter. I mainly use Stocksubmitter for submitting videos and do all my keywording in that program.

Tried to google with no success, may I ask what Xpikes is? Software? App?

Thanks!

Really 8GB of RAM for a full featured NLE is a bit tough.  You're starving both the OS and the NLE when you do this - especially when frame size has increased to 4k.

One thing you can do is go into Premiere Pro's preferences and adjust the memory setting.  What I'd do is probably LOWER the RAM to Premiere Pro to 4GB and leave the rest to the OS.

Hope the new camera and Stock sales works out for you!

Cheers,
Dennis

shouldn't you suggest proxies?

:P

some more actions:
disable video thumbnails in timeline
set to 1/4th playback (if not set automatically) and pause resolutions
enable hardware acceleration decoding (if not set)
set a different location  for Media / Media Cache files
optimize rendering set to performance
set the ram for Adobe apps to highest (around 6 for his 8Gb available) and leave 1,6 for OS assuming that works dedicated to edit

researching how to optinize windows, auto startup services, pagefile etc. to restrict the  non edit related procedures all with no cost.

a medium extra cost it would be to replace the DVD tray with an SSD HDD caddy and place there media / media cache

:)

(08stock08 thanks for Xpiks clarification!)

I'll second that recommendation.

After reading about Xpiks here a couple of weeks ago, I downloaded it and learned to use it on my last batch of shots. It worked just fine!
