Title: Best value camera to produce 4k stock videos
Post by: kenwood on December 08, 2016, 11:39
What is the best value camera to produce stock 4k videos?  I have used a sony rx100, canon 6d and 5d3 to produce stock videos.  I shoot mostly travel scenic (wide) and static (medium) shots.  Based on my research so far, the sony a6300 with 16-50 kit lens seem to be a very good option, with tiny size, impressive level of details and low light capability.  Price wise it can be had for under 1k USD.   Are there any other better or similar options I should consider?  Also are there any budget ultrawide options available for the a6300?

Panasonic are probably the best on a low budget.  I use a Lumix DMC-G7.

I'm waiting for the GH5 to drop. Should be in a couple of months.

Since I can't actually shoot 1080p on my D610, I've been using my smartphone for 4k. Works pretty well in decent light, as long as you keep it steady or use a gimbal. The new G85/G80, however, may have better value for the money compared to the G7, as it has in-body stabilization.

16-50 kit lens is good but quite fragile for traveling IMO. I've had mine repaired already and the issue is typical as I've been told.

Agree.
I already bought two pieces on flash presale on Banggood or Gearbest.
I already forgot where, because they were so cheap.

Is there any good budget camera which shoots 4k in slow motion? Maybe 90-250 fps should do.

I doubt there's any. Even the upcoming GH5 only shoots 60 fps at 4k, an achievement in itself.

Why can't D610 shoot 1080p?

Red Raven shoots 120fps at 4.5k

$10,000... I guess the term "budget" is relative.  ;D

I also considered the panasonic line of cameras.  But the low light capability is not on par with the sony.  Specifically I compare the gx85 against a6300 at iso1600 and iso3200.  Another positive of the sony is it ability to track a subject.  The one issue with the sony is the lack of budget lense selection esp on the wider end.  16mm turn into a 24mm on FF, which is not wide enough for what I need.  My budget is under 1k for the whole setup.

I would consider the coming GH5. I did have the GH4 and that was a very good camera for 4K. I traded it and got a Black-Magic 4K. Fantastic camera in all ways only one trouble nothing comes with it all extras etc are separate and had to be purchased.

there is a camera I think the B700 that you should consider, it is only $400, however I do not know what the quality is.
