Title: Canon 5D mark II gets 60fps and 24fps added to it's skill set
Post by: leaf on December 07, 2009, 09:45
The next firmware update is going to be a nice one.  The 5D mark II is going to be able to shoot at 24fps which is more movie-esque and additionally get a 60fps speed which can be used to shoot slow motion.

Someone asked in the istock forum what frame rate was the best.  It seems some people are adamant that 30fps is the best while others would only use 24.  Coming from Europe, I suppose I should use the PAL 25 and 50fps, not the NTSC 24 and 60?  It is so confusing for a stills man like me ::)

I knew about the 24fps, but not about the 60fps. That's awesome. Now If only firmwares were a little bit easier to synchronise with the camera.

I never done any on my cameras and I should do it for my D300. I sometimes get banding problem that is fixed with the first firmware released. It's probably easier than I thought, just never get through all the steps. Still I'm exited to see a video taken at 60fps with the 5D MarkII

24fps is film frame-rate. If you're shooting for a cinematic production shoot in 24 fps. It has a certain 'feel'. Otherwise shoot your local broadcast format PAL(25) or NTSC(30). There's no 'best', they were developed because of the electric system in both worlds(US/Japan uses 110V and 60hz, while europe uses 220V and 50hz)

From my very limited experience I have read that 24 to 30 conversions work reasonably well and are easy enough to do while the 30 to 24 are very problematic.

That's cool. I just bought a 5D Mk II. I just want to know, how do I update the firmware? Is it free? :D
