Btw, Leaf, I can edit posts on Mozzila any more. I click on edit and after finished I click save but nothing happend.
So I can't change my upper post. My english is not very well so to be clear I don't recommend any MPEG2 or MPEG4 recompression (MTS, h264,m2v...) because of more video artifacts in picture.

Just announced HV40 at CES 2009. I was thinking of getting a HV20 when there was no 30.  :)

Just can't wait to see what this one comes out for. No tapes, finally, although tape is still the best format, I wonder if this one will change that? As always, hard drive, you have to export. Mini-CD, unreliable. Memory, you will need to back up to something else, but a tape, you can put in a box on the shelf. One major negative with tape, is when it becomes tape spaghetti. After that, it's still the tops.

No price that I could find and like all the rest, it may take months before we really see one.

The VIXIA HF20 delivers brilliant video and photos through a Canon exclusive 3.89-megapixel CMOS image sensor and the latest version of our advanced image processor, DIGIC DV III. It is ultra lightweight - our smallest and lightest HD camcorder, and brings the ease and convenience of Flash Memory. This technology, the same used in advanced laptop computers, MP3 players, PDAs and cell phones, allows the VIXIA HF20 to record to both its large 32GB internal memory for over 12 hours of crisp, high definition video as well as to a removable SDHC card. You have extended available recording space and more flexibility in file transfer and playback.

What's more, the VIXIA HF20 allows you to record at up to 24Mbps, the highest bitrate in AVCHD format, for the highest quality image. The VIXIA HF20's Canon Exclusive features - such as the Genuine Canon 15x HD video lens, Genuine Canon Face Detection, SuperRange Optical Image Stabilization and a host of new control and creative options - makes our Flash Memory camcorder unmistakably Canon.

just read the news about Circuit City in USA. wonder if any of you living there could get some equipment for a deal during their liquidation.
sad continuing story of hard times nowadays, but i am sure some photographers will save some money getting to Circuit City before they close their doors.
sure there will be a mad stampede to clean house.
hope no one gets killed this time.

Haven't seen news of a closing sale, but there's a HV20 on my list. They had one at the outlet store (closed last month) listed as open box. I copied the price and went back to work. Looked it up and found it for less on the Circuit City website, new. These people didn't have a clue sometimes. The outlet store was always screwing with prices. Found a hard drive one day and bought it. Good deal, so I went back the next day and they raised the price to double. I asked what happened, was it marked wrong? The guy says, no we were selling them and people were buying them to sell on eBay, so we raised the price. What the heck is that? Price change because people liked it?

I did like the stores and the selection and the generally good prices. One less choice which leaves Best Buy as about the only big store around here. With any selection of computers, video, printers, and things I can usually use.

From their site:
Quote
Liquidation sales begin as early as Saturday, January 17, 2009, and will last as long as it takes to sell through the merchandise at each of the stores.  We expect the sales to wrap up by the end of March 2009.

I'll go check tomorrow morning after the first wave has passed through. I usually end up buying things like parallel cables and IDE cases that no one else would want.  ::) I'm still using envelopes, markers and things from the last day for an Office Depot store that closed four years ago. Can't pass a good deal.

one thing i find frustrating with the hv30 is the wide angle is very limited. In a room inside it is hard to capture much of what is going on. Perhaps a wide angle filter would be a nice accesory
