Does anyone know of a decent IPTC editor?  I have a batch of photos that I did for a model a few months ago, I did not keyword at the time I created the jpgs because I didn't have a commercial release from the session.  I do now and would like to quickly keyword the files for upload.  Would be awesome if it had a bulk edit feature which would allow me to add all the common keywords at once and then go back and get more image specific.

I looked at ProStockMaster, but I don't feel like paying $50 for it.  :)

Adobe Bridge is pretty cool for keywording. You can do batch operations, structure your keywords into sets. You can also have shortcuts to most frequently used folders in the main window. You don't have to type keywords every time, you just tick the box next to it, once you have your keyword tree ready.

Irfanview (It's free)

http://www.irfanview.com/

I'm not sure about the bulk editing, but the words "copy" and "paste" spring to mind.

You'll need to download the plugins as well to be able to edit IPTC info.

and of course photoshop and adobe bridge work well too.

I think if you download the trial version of photoshop you can use bridge indefinitely.

You can use prostockmaster for free if you just want something to keyword images with. You only have to buy it if you want to upload more than 5 images to your chosen microstock sites each day.

I just want to add a little tip here for anyone trying photoshop.

Don't forget to put commas between your words.

Otherwise the sites will pick up a line of keywords and the rest will be lost.

I must have slept through a recent batch of keywording and forgot this little necessity.  Oddly though, Istock picked every non-comma'd word up before they rejected them.

1 ) dianjo, i do it the old fashioned way, i put my most common description and keywords in a textfile. then each time i use the same or related images, i just ctrl c / ctrl v  into my info via PS.

2 ) Pixart,  StockXpert is good too . i had a reviewer email me to say i added a full stop instead of a comma to one or two. instead of rejecting it, they emailed me . that's a cool big C ... for Communication  :)

Irfanview is great, I have switched to Adobe Bridge or Cushy Stock now though.

Cushy Stock is free in the demo version - works great.  It even generates up to 30 for you from a few keywords.

I know you should separate all keywords with commas, but should you put phrases in quotation marks?

i.e. alley, alleyway, back alley, bin, etc

I've noticed some sites take them and some sites break up the quoted parts.  Is there one system that works for all sites?  Are the commas enough?  I think fotolia rejects phrases if they are NOT in quotes ie. "black and white" -- without the quotes, it will add black --- and ---- white as separate keywords.

What do you do?

Keyphrases are handled differently by various microstocks. Unfortunately, there is no single method which will work for all of them.
We keep thinking about that and we'll probably do something in one of the later releases of ProStockMaster.
