DJI Phantom 4 against Phantom 4 Pro. I was asked to do this comparison by owners of P4, Mavic and SPark interested in upgrading

Ya it's crazy how much better the P4P footage is.  I upgraded from Phantom 3 Pro to 4 Pro almost a year ago and have no regrets at all.

That's interesting. I was actually finding my phantom 3 seemed to have better video than the phantom 4. Comparing the 4 & 4PRO though, interesting... I may have to consider upgrading to the new one...

Just like i wrote this post :D

P3P and P4 have same camera, P4 lens in maybe 5% better, both 12megapixes camera. While P4P has 20Mp camera which is even better than Inspire 1 X3 (16MP).

P4P * rocks in term of camera quality and flight times. I get 23-25 minutes in the air depending of the flight and wind conditions.

It's just funny - I agree with his video (at least for the P4). I found with 'optimal' lighting conditions - I get really beautiful pictures. But if it is slight overcast, or 'extra' sunny - the pictures either looked washed out, or overexposed. I was actually just thinking that today.

So... his video gave me some things to think about. BUT - I am curious if they will be coming out with a phantom 5 in the next few months, and if I should just wait...

Yes Tyson, I agree.
The funny thing about the P4 is that in 20% of the situations, in perfect conditions, it looks as good as the P4Pro.
But it need perfect light, not facing the sun, getting the WB in camera and no detailed elements close by.
In the other 80% of situations, the P4P is miles and miles better.
I could not find a fault in the P4P so far!

Even the low light is crazy good with P4P, even at 1600-3200 ISO. White the P3P and P4 top limit for ok footage is ISO400.

Check out this guys P4P night video. Read video description.

The Phantom 4 Advanced has the same camera as the 4 Pro, so if you wanted to save a few bucks but still want a better camera than the plain Phantom 4, get the Advanced.  All you'll loose are the 360-degree sensors.  The Advanced only has front and bottom sensors.

If you do video professionally, the Phantom 4 Pro is the way to go.
For people less picky on video a bettere alternative than the P4 is in my opinion the Mavic Pro, much more portable, less noise and 28mm field of view

Well, one day they will come out with a Phantom 5, but id does not seem to be in the immediate future.
After all they have to come with a major technical advance, like bigger sensor or lens, or, even more important, a higher bitrate.
I think in the meanwhile they will keep adding models with minor improvements (like some extra intelligent flight mode), probably still under the name P4Pro

I suppose all of you are in America.
Sadly for us in Europe it has become practically impossible to fly: rules change for each country (which means every few miles) and they are not clear at all.
In the past few months a real witch hunting started here over drones.
If you post any drone footage on the web you are attacked by all sort of people for any sort of ridiculous reasons.
Some people pretend that you need a commercial licence, which here costs a fortune (and doesn't even deal with drones at all).
I simply cannot believe that the Civil Aviation considers "commercial activity" selling video on stock agencies and earning enough for buying a packet of crisps per month, or posting video on a YouTube channel that is not even monetised.
In any case I stopped flying more than six months ago

Hi all,

the P4P has a 1 inch CMOS sensor, whereas the P4 and the P4a (advanced) do not. So it's not just the MP, it's actually the sensor that plays a significant role.

Rumors has it that DJI will update the Mavic pro with the same sensor currently in the P4P, but for a lower price than the bigger phantom, so that will increase mobility and flexibility flying drones with increases image quality (both photo and video).

Another advantage of the P4P is that you can easily adjust fstops, shutter speed and ISO in manual mode, do bracket shooting and some other tricks -  therefore you can have more control over your images and videos.

However, please be aware that you need to take (and pass) the Part107 test before you can upload and start to sell. And even with that, you can't simply fly anywhere you want - I highly recommend the free app Airmap to quickly find out if you are allowed to fly in your desired destination or not.

Best, and good luck to all!

I would love it if an updated Mavic Pro got the new sensor. But since they just released the Mavic Air, it might take a while. It seems the Air has slightly better IQ than the Pro.

And regarding the Part 107 - just a friendly reminder that most people aren't in the US. Rules are different everywhere.  :)

I am myself waiting for the new Mavic Pro with the 1 inch sensor, although in my experience the bit rate plays also a huge role in video quality.
Interesting what you say about the Mavic Air, at first I dismissed it expecting an image quality similar to the p4 (non pro), but I have seen some good footage (although footage on the web doesn't do justice).
I will have a closer look to the Air

Yes, they did raise the bitrate for the Air, so that's probably why the quality is better.

Very interesting!
If the video quality is close to the P4Pro, the size, folding props, reduced noise and field of view of 28mm are huge bonus

Superb if true! The Phantoms were always too big for me, as I mostly travel on foot in the wilderness when I'm filming. That big extra bag just meant the drone was left behind too many times...

You are right,
and here in Europe the situation about legislation sadly is much worse.
Different rules for each country.
I hope one day they will do one single European permit, but not holding my breath

The P4 Advanced also has a 1" sensor.  The cameras on the Pro and Advanced are identical.

This is correct: the Advanced has the same camera as the Pro

Has anyone flying the P4P found the side and back obstacle avoidance cameras to be useful or necessary?

Im wondering theyre worth the extra $?

They can be useful, especially when you are in a difficult situations and have to hit the return to home button.
If I remember correctly they are in disabled in tripod mode and Tap to fly, two modes that I use a lot for filming
