Hey all,
I've been selling green screen footage for the past 2 years and I recently thought of uploading some of my clips as transparent files with alpha channel.
I've tried QuickTime animation and Proress codecs, but for a 1-minute 4K file, it seems to exceeds the 4GB SS limit.
So I saw there is a PNG option but I can't really understand how do they want it. When I export a PNG sequence I get a folder with many files, that SS does not accept. I can't see any video format that accepts PNG as a codec.
What am I missing?
Somebody here has any experience in this field?

Only Prores 4444 permits an alpha channel.  Aside from Prores 4444, QT animation and PNG will be the best alternates to give you alpha channel capabilities.  And yes, these videos will be huge.

I used to render normally and add the B/W "matte" to the end of the video to let the editor create the alpha channel themselves, but too many reviewers these days don't understand it and were rejecting those clips, so I've resorted to just giving the green screen.

Have you seen a sales benefit to an alpha channel or "transparency" vs. green screen?

I think sophisticated buyers like true-transparent files.  But I just can't justify the file sizes for stock, so I do the green screen.

I think the general buyer sees "green screen" in the thumbnail and gravitate to those files.

But I don't do enough of either to make any real conclusions if one sells better than the other.

Download an older version of AE and render a video as Quicktime... PNG+Alpha. I think you want CC2014 or before to make sure PNG is an output option.
