Title: LR 2.1 dies when entering Develop mode

Tried to optimize catalog, restore previous one from backup and reinstall. No error message so I cannot guess what's wrong. It was working fine until yesterday when asked to make backup. Then I imported some pictures and tried to edit them. No changes to system that I am aware of.

do you need any of the catalog that's already in there?  not the actual images but could you just start a new catalog and go from there?
