Good day to you all. Can I avail myself of this forum's extensive knowledge and skills.
I come from a stills background but want to shoot video and I thought a GH5 with a 25 mm lens and a gimbal would be fine but soon realise that I actually need to add a 5inch monitor. i'm not a young fellow anymore and this ends up being heavier than my D800 set up.
Can I ask is there a camcorder that I get get that will shoot REAL 4K and at 60 fps, that will be light enough for me to handle and also travel with and when shooting not freak out the local population or law enforcement.
I have done a lot of Professor Googling, coming up with some good info and also some conflicting info. In the end I thought the horses mouth is the best place to get this, so here I am.
The videos will be mainly for travel stock. I am not adverse to buying second hand. and would like to spend around 1-2 thousand Aussie.
Thanks in advance.
David May

If you can live with only 30fps @4K, Sony ax53 is a lightweight, small camcorder with great optical stabilizer. Hanging from the neck or shoulder, makes you just another tourist :) Not really good at low light though, plus a known issue of shaky image on full (30x) zoom tripod static shots. As they say, you win some you lose some...

I doubt you can find a light setup with a built-in 5-inch monitor, if that's what you're asking?

If you're looking for light, 4k60p, you've already found the camera - the GH5. I film with the viewfinder all the time and it's much easier to see details. I would never add a big clunky monitor on top, but then again, my eyesight is still very good (and will hopefully stay that way).

Are you asking if there is a camera with a BIG 5" display that shoots 4k60p that is also small and lightweight? I think the answer is no. :) I could of course be wrong.

No I don't want to have a 5 inch display.

Could you explain a bit more what you are missing with the GH5? Was the issue that the built-in display is too small?

Shooting with the GH5 is great but it is unweildy and to have a better control when shooting run and gun, I need to add at least a cage and then you start to stand out in a crowd. Perhaps it is because I came from a stills background and am used to doing all my shooting through a viewfinder not on a display.

I perfectly agree with the above.
The GH5 is the best for what you want to achieve, especially if you are (like me) interested in 4k at 60fps.
Also it has an excellent dual stabilisation system (both in camera and on lenses). In certain situations you will not need a cage or a gimbal

Dji osmo pocket. Pair with your phone as a secondary screen as your 5 inch monitor. The setup is perfect for travel plus it is already equipped with 4k60 and steady by design with gimbal by default. Only downside is its not great for night shoot but you can still achieve a good timelapse day or night with nd filters.

Not sure if it is a good option to stick with one not interchangeable or upgradeable camera. There are many combinations of smartphone controlled action cameras and gimbals to choose from.
