Title: My Pricing and First Sale at Featurepics
Post by: mwp1969 on March 17, 2008, 14:16
All,

Today I got my first sale at Featurepics. Its been an interesting story ... after trying my pricing all over the place $8, $6, $2, $5,  for a couple of months with no results I was frustrated. I told myself if I was going to have to wait, then I might as well be paid well for any sale there. I rasied my price to $10.00 for all images with allowing resizing.

The next day I got a sale for $4.00 with a commission of $2.80 :)

Note: Its a picture that I have on all of my sites.

Mark

I have often wondered about this, being new at this game.  Does the fact that you have an image listed as 0.25 somewhere keep it from being purchased for $10 elsewhere.  For heavens sake, I suspect that the prices are so * low that it probably wouldn't be a deterrent if the image were definitely needed.  It is one thing if a designer is collecting images just to have them on hand from a subscription service or for a general mock up, but I would think if a specific image is found that can be put to a specific use right away the $10 is likely such a trivial part of the overall budget that it simply wouldn't be worth the time to check other sites.  But then again, I really don't know a whole lot about this business...I am just envisioning the way I would act.  Does anyone out there know for sure if this makes sense or not?

.25 is your commission. Not what it sold for.

Mark - Congrats on the sale! I just joined but have not sold anything yet.

Congrats, Mark.

With the recent price increases in many sites, I'm going to raise my prices in FP.

Congratulations Mark,

With a bit of luck you'll reach the $50 payout by the end of next year, of course you'll need to do a hell of a lot self marketing for that because they don't do any.

Most of my images are at 10.00 none less than that.

That's exactly it.

In which case you would think that the micro-stocks could figure out a better pricing structure that would benefit everyone, photographers and the stock company.

Many agencies won't do that. They want to sell subscriptions: higher, regular payments from the customers, lower payouts to the photographers.

Hi Mark !

Congratulations.

I had my first sale there two weeks ago (and it was my first sale through a stock agency too !).

Yes, I know what some will say : I'll have to wait some time to get enough sales to get the money, but I'm not in a hurry : I am building my portfolio. And with 10$ the sale (7 for me) it should'nt need too much of them to get something.

And anyway, I like the site and their friendly attitude toward the photographers. I sent them a message with some suggestions and they answered quite quickly and their answer were dead on the point and really positive.

Good luck Featurepics.

I've had two sales lately and I'm sure I didin't get a email for the last one.  I can't guarantee about the previous one, but I also think there was no email.  So both were very good surprises.

A bit more and I'll have my 2nd payout.

Adelaide

I typically get emails from FP anywhere from 24-38 hours after the fact.

All,

I've bumped my pricing up to $11.00 per image for RF+Extension allowing resizing. As I hope the higher commissions will be worth any wait in between sales.

hi,

I have everything at $5, changing from $2 three months ago and now seen three bme's. will probably put it to $10 soon.

Sales for me this month are the same as crestock and canstock combined :) and within a $1 of LO who managed to more than triple their last months earnings. not at monthly payout yet, but it's coming :)

my thoughts on pricing... I cant find it now but they have a graph that shows pricing of sales.  most people search at $2, $5, $10, $20 etc if you price at say $6.50 people those who search at $5 don't see it and most people who do see your image are willing to pay $10+ so you are missing out on income.

edit: just found the bulk editor for pricing (took a while) - i've upped my prices 100% across the board - from $5 to $10.

i like an opinion from anyone , please.
do you think collections or galleries helped you make the sales?

I have only had 1 sale on Featurepics. $8.40 commission from it. Just wish they were a little more frequent.

I have 20 downloads there in the year or so that I am with them, it was enough for one pay check of $51.30.

at the beginning I had all my images there set at $5.00.
I recently changed all images to $7.00 to see how it works, and each sale of a file increases it's price by one dollar, so now I have files at 7,8 and 9 dollars.

Galleries are free images.  I did it once and I don't think it boosted sales at all (as they did not in 123RF for me).

Collections are good to send a group of images to prospective buyers or put in your own website.  If one of yours gets highlighted by the site, you may have many views, but I haven't noticed any correlation with sales.

However, sales are scarce for a proper statistical analysis.  Anyway, I've just reached my second pay-out.  ;D

Adelaide

Recently changed to $10.00 RF+Extension for all images.

I've only had one sale there for $4.00 with a $2.80 commission back in February ...

I had another sale today.  :)

I think by the end of the month I'll increase my prices in 50%, maybe even 100%.  After all the sites raising their prices, mine became quite cheap there.

I sold one small picture on Featurepics months ago, then nothing for a long time, and few days ago these two pictures at $10 each (my standard pricing there):

I have started to link pictures used in my blogs and websites to my Featurepics portfolio, but the recent sale was not the result of that promotion yet.

After a few sales months ago, nothing. I'm afraid FP is going the way of Lucky Oliver, Snap, and Yay, at least with my portfolio.

Yes, Lou. I agree - but wonder do I leave my floundering port there, or do I close shop?

I'd just leave it to rot there along with the rest of our images. Maybe someone can compost it into something productive sometime down the line.

I had low prices at FP, between $0.50 and $1.00
I then marked up everything to at least $10.00. My no. of sales remained the same, except no I make 10 times more when I manage to sell something -

I'm very close to a new pay-out there.  Just one sale this month, yet giving me more than two in 123RF.
