As I understand they said, they will pay you in whatever currency you are using. I was paid in euros, as usual.

You're lucky, as they pay you $1 = 1 which is more than the real exchange, while $1 = 3.75 is less.

This is an ongoing issue which Fotolia first and Adobe now have no intention of fixing.

No problem, you don't have to worry actually. It's only an issue for those being paid in pounds, since Adobe applies a wrong (and highly unfavorable) currency exchange rate from dollars to pounds.

For those being paid in euro, it's the other way around: Adobe applies a wrong (but slightly favourable) currency exchange rate by considering one dollar = one euro.

Oh, ok, so they are very selective, didnt realize that. Thank you for the info.

Yeah, they don't want just files with low sales, they want files with potential.

I only submitted files with low total sales across all agencies, with no potential in my opinion. No surprise that only 2 were selected.

Allowing more to be given away for free, is like sawing off the branch you are sitting on.

There is no free $5 lunch!

Well I see no change at all in the status of my submitted photos for the free collection. I guess it is 'America first'?  ;)

The current size of the free collection is much lower than it was in April 2022 (when it was 1,054,293 items including 817,193 photos). Not sure if this will grow again, but it's now just over 765k total with 544k photos.

A number of the large initial contributors to the free collection - Wavebreak, Pressmaster, Wirestock, Rawpixel, Freepik for example - have reduced or eliminated their free content

If sawing the branch means best month in 2 years, I don't mind more branch sawing.

You may now have a branch, but also broken legs. Congrats!  :D

Hi Mat!!!

Just a few comments:

1) I still haven't received a confirmation email for free collection nominees, although, in my portfolio, I see a huge number of files eligible for the free collection;

2) There is no way I can remove a file from selected eligible collection nominees at my Dashboard, - is this a bug?

Many thanks!

When does the review process end?  Ive had a few images selected but several are still in review.  Just curious when the review is over.  Thanks!

Still two questions for Mat/Adobe:

- to download the pictures that are free, do you need a (paid) account with Adobe?
- are there any restrictions what you can do with these images? For example can downloaders use them commercially?

To late anyway now because we submitted them (or not) and there is no way back. But still curious.

I am not Mat, but I can answer that question. Yes, you need an account, if you click on the license button on a free image it askes you to log into your account.
The licence type for the free images is a "standard" licence, as it says under each free image. The images can be used commercially. They standart licence allows the following usage:
-Unlimited web views
-Use the asset in email marketing, mobile advertising, social media, or a broadcast program
-Can modify the asset
-Up to 500,000 copies or views of the asset

@mat Any chance you can throw in one of your nice shirts when the next batch of free images are under review?

Matt, when can we expect the first batch to be approved? This month's sales is down the drain and some extra funds would be great to begin the summer slump.

Same question here. It's been 4 days since the images eligible went in for review. Is there any date we should expect some extra bucks?

Thanks!

You'll be the first to know! As per the terms, it will happen within 30 days.

Thanks for your patience,

Mat Hayward

With the addition that I nominated the files, but so far none seem to be selected, in stark difference to the year before. Also no confirmation email. Hm.

...sorry, but authors do not nominate the files by themselves, Adobe does... we just approve or disapprove... My problem is I can't remove any files from this eligible free collection... Last year it was possible, now not!!! :)

They tell us which files are eligible for us to nominate them. We nominate from that selection and then they approve our nominated files or not.

"Eligible for free" only means that you may (or may not) nominate those files. If you don't nominate them, they remain "eligible", but they are not considered by Adobe.

...no, last year was done differently, - Adobe first picks up eligible files and marks them eligible, then the contributor has to remove if he/she wants certain files out from this selection (there was only one action available for contributor to remove a file if any, I removed just a couple), then Adobe reviews the eligible collection and selects only a few, the best ones... In my case, last year, Adobe picked up only about 100 files from a few thousands, a ratio was 1:20 I guess... So, now, my problem is that I can not anymore remove any files from the eligible collection, there is no such action available... I think it is a bug... and that was and still is my question to Mat!

No, it was the same last year. You had a deadline till when you could add or remove images that are eligible for the free collection. I think it was something like the 27th of June this year. After this you cannot add or remove images anymore.

OK, now I understood the problem! The window for free-collection selection is already closed, it was very short, ~2 weeks...
I did not do any actions, because I did not know about it, was no any announcements, no emails...
There is an option "eligible" available in my dashboard, I have now no idea whether my eligible files were/are considered for Adobe's review or not...
In any case, I am fine... if now no files are in the free collection, they will generate over the year I am sure at least the same amount if not more in revenue... But in general, I am confused, last year was everything more clear done...

Well at this time 1$ = 1 anyway.

Hi Everyone,

You will soon see the toggle switch for "in review" files removed. This is for files that you had nominated for consideration into the Free collection, but were not accepted during the recent 2022 wave. I have confirmed there will be no additional waves of approvals for photos from the current group of nominated files.

Let me know if you have any questions,

Mat Hayward
Does that mean that all photos that have the status "in review" were not selected, and more importantly, will not be selected,  by Adobe and will go back into your normal portfolio?
