I guess I should have seen that coming and bought Adobe stock. :'(

As of today's close, according to yahoo graph data, over the last 2 years, ADBE is up 62%. Coincidentally, SSTK is down 62%. (Since ADBE announced it was buying FT, it's up 29%, vs a 51% drop in SSTK -- not as interesting as the 2 year comparison, but more relevant).
-
And so are my sales. go ADOBE!!!!!!

sales from microstock are like communicating vessels, i doubt your bottom line goes up

It might well be, but if customers migrate to better paying agencies (based on your communicating vessels theory) your bottom line can significantly go up.
I can only hope to see one day all iStock customers migrating to FT and SS. This could probably increase my bottom line with 15%, maybe more.

Well iStock's former customers must be going somewhere because theyseem to be deserting istock in droves. I have not had corresponding jumps in FT or SS sales tho.

It will be nice to see some numbers, proving the IS customer loss. Maybe my wish is coming true, after all ;)
Anyway, I can confirm Laurin's observation. Obviously, this is not enough to prove a theory, but I can only wish you to be right and this trend to continue. Every $0.19 sale is a stab in my heart.

No complaints or surprises here. My sales from FT are equal to or better than SS for the 4th straight month. And, I'm seeing more credit sales higher than $.29; $.58, $.99, even $2.50 to $4.50.
With SS (unless I get the occasional $2.50 or VERY occasional $35+ SOD) it's $.36 most all the time. I used to get regular $65 SODs - but no more.
And, FT accepts more of my files, quickly, and with pretty much fair assessments.
I spoke with a rep from a local design firm, and they are planning to move to FT after their one-year commitment to SS expires this March.

Good info to have. Anecdotal, but still interesting. Thanks for sharing that.

Check your numbers in a couple years. This is just the up and down of the market. Adobe is in the news, SS is leveling. Nothing has changed. Most buyers don't care how much we make. Do you care how much the person who works at McDonald's makes or Wendy's or Burger King and that makes you go there for some fast food.
Adobe is making a fine place in the market with FT and SS is going strong. Who knows, maybe IS will wake up, and change? They aren't the power business they imagine they are. Lobo is the image of IS for us and the reflection of the way they think.
All you millennials here will understand how it's all about ME attitude works for IS like it does for you.

zero talent, if your 38 cent sales are replaced with 35 cent sales you lose 3 cent per sale, which agency pays more than 38 cents on subs of the top 8 agencies to raise your bottom line?
-
ok, apologies, i was assuming sales between ss and ft but obviosuly there are more scenarios

Adobe is killing my earnings with those small sales. Much worse then Shutterstock >:(

I plotted an Excel graph showing my revenue development throughout the years of both Adobe and Shutterstock. It paints a clear picture of who came out on top:

Here is the same graph, but starting with 2014.
I can also observe the AS growth following the acquisition of Fotolia.
I can also observe a decline following Stan Pavlovsky's new royalty structure.
However, in my case, the SS decline was mitigated, once I uploaded a series of videos that turned out to be in very high demand.
This is why at least for the time being, SS keeps on delivering the best performance for me.

Adobe is killing my earnings with those small sales. Much worse then Shutterstock >:(
I've notice, that while people selling photos are raving about Adobe, but as a video creator my earnings at Adobe (despite of increasing portfolio) still decrease. While on SS I'm doubling my earnings every year, mostly because of those 150-300$/video sales

Yup, the $2 video sales have been absolutely disheartening. Adobe used to be an amazing place for vidoes, but this seems to be a massive step (along with the $8 buyout for free collection) in the race to the bottom

What 150-300 dollars are you talking about. There are no such amounts on SS for a long time.

I don't mind $2 video sales, as long as I can count for more higher sales (just like on SS) but on Adobe lately, the highest sales I had was $25 (and it's very rare unfortunately...)

Well, but I still have. At least once a month I'm having $150 or higher video sale, and few $50-$70 sales. I can't remember when I had such a sale on Adobe :)
-

Is August 2022 a "long time" ago for you?
Because, in August 2022 I had my biggest sale ever on SS.
If it happened to me, it certainly happened to others, too.
-

In 2021 and 2022, I rarely have sales in the $100 range. Accordingly, my income has decreased by 50-70% from the level that it was before 2021. But if you have such sales, then shutterstock promotes authors manually.
Either the quality is approached or the country of registration of the author.
Yes, adobe does not make such sales, but adobe is basically stable. Although my portfolio growth on adobe does not lead to an increase in income.
-

Or maybe these contributors just have better content than you. 🤷♀️

Instead of trying to find all kind of excuses and invent conspiracy theories, maybe you should look in the mirror and acknowledge that your stuff may not be that much in demand. ;)
These big video sales on SS are not that rare. Check these additional ones, below.
During the same period, my top 3 video sales on AS were $70, $70, $56.
Not bad, but far from what SS was able to pull out.
-

It does not matter. Statistics are statistics. If my income has decreased, then the income of those who have a better portfolio should also decrease. It has always been so. But if someone, and there are very few of them, says that his income has not decreased, then suspicions about shutterstock begin. And this is logical and natural.
It makes no sense to compare portfolios, it's all subjective, everyone should evaluate their own videos.
Everything I wrote refers to the video.
-
Yes, you can indiscriminately write that if your income has decreased, then your video is crap. And the local trolls like this approach here.
-
Out of curiosity, does anyone know how many contributors there are at Adobe Stock?!?
-

Not necessarily ;)
Your great videos may not be that much in demand, as your competitors' crappy videos. ;D
-
Maybe they could celebrate the good news by offering us creative cloud for another year :)

If the IDs are consecutive, find a new contributor and click one of their images, click BY... look at the ID number?
I see numbers like 207,000,000 but we don't know what the starting number was?
Always the same other questions. How many are active and how many opened an account and never uploaded a single image?

Cheers... yes, the volume of active accounts will be a lot less than that I'd imagine. But I guess it has to be a couple of million or so. The better half was asking how many for context in terms of the AS rank. I had no idea ::)

Anyone with next to no dls on AS prepared to share their rough weekly rank? That should give us some idea.

I think Adobe only shows you your rank to a certain point. At least I remember when I started on Adobe it didn'r show me a rank at all and then at some point my my rank was suddenly something like 40.000. (Might have been 80.000, I don't remember the exant number, just that it was an even 5-digit number) So I think if your rank is lower than a certain number it does not get displayed at all.

It seems to only show if you set the time to weekly or lifetime. I think it is pretty accurate. I hadn't checked mine for years (maybe since FL days) and just did it now. It's pretty much in line with what I would expect.

With 4 downloads this week so far it says that I am ranked 24 000.

In 2019 there were nearly 465.000 AS contributors - based on a research of Robert Kneschke. I could post a link to this research but I don't know if I'm allowed to do so.
I don't know how many contributors there are now. And I don't know how many there are active.
Some rough current data:
Roughly 20,000 contributors have about 10 or more downloads per week.
Roughly 7,000 contributors have about 50 or more downloads per week.
Roughly 5,000 contributors have about 75 or more downloads per week.
Roughly 3,000 contributors have more than 100 downloads per week.
Of course, the numbers fluctuate between better and worse weeks, e.g. because of holidays or after Christmas at the end of the year.

My weekly stats at Adobe (video):

POSITION

Looks like the position depends on downloads, not earnings. I believe they should use earnings instead...

Do we know that the week is the last 7 days or the last calendar week? The graphs look that way, but do we know? Nov. 7th is the week, which is a Monday? :o
16,750th and the week hasn't been anything special. If I get some more DLs I'll try to remember to check again.
25,100th lifetime - keep in mind I only rejoined when Adobe bought them, I don't have many images and no video.
I don't pay attention to rank. Personally it means nothing.

I think it’s a rolling 7 days but not 100% confident on that. Lifetime 564, week - down a bit at 400 but varies between 119 - 800 depending on the time of year.
I find the weekly rank accurately reflects the amount of of dls ect where as the lifetime rank seems to relate / respond to earnings more.

What makes you think that the overall ranking could be based on revenue rather than downloads?
I've never asked myself that question, because I've always assumed that the weekly ranking and the overall ranking always refer to downloads.
There I am already a little curious.
Whereby I must admit that alijaber is of course also right with his contribution to the topic of videos.
-
And, to help me understand the statistics, I'm assuming you've reached over 100,000 downloads on Adobe. Is that correct?
-
If I have a big money day it seems to move more (lifetime rank) than just a day with large numbers of dls. I have nothing to prove it so it could just as easily be dls as well. Just a hunch.
Yes, I have over 100k in dls. AS seems to be shifting a lot more of late. SS volume has dropped a little but the value has decreased a lot. It almost feels like they’ve lost some of the corporate clients that spend big to AS but that is purely a guess.
-
For the week of Nov 7, I have 6 dls and a weekly rank of 28,200th, which is a higher # (and therefore further down) than @justanotherphotographer who's had 4 sales and is ranked ~20,000th for the week (or did you include your lifetime rank instead?) but ahead of the person with 3 video dls and $68+ earnings, ranked 30,000+ meanwhile I have very low average earnings, only $4.23 for the past three days.
I confirmed these are sales from Monday-Wed, 11/7-11/9.
Will check in at the end of the week.
If there are really 465,000 contributors or even 200,000, this puts me in the top 5 or 10% for # of dls which means the average microstocker must be earning even less than I imagined, since I've always considered myself small fry (729 images, rejoined when Adobe bought Fotolia). I guess most contributors upload a few files and don't do anything else. I think at one time ss said that 80% of contributors never licensed a single image.
Busy with so many other things I haven't grown my portfolio this year, though I did upload some png files and plan to upload more.
-
On Adobe, you need to sort the tags by importance. Does everyone do it?

The adjustment of the weekly ranking always takes place with a time delay of one day. On Sunday, you see the weekly ranking, which is based on the numbers of the week up to and including Saturday. Since many contributors have no or only a few downloads on a Sunday, the weekly ranking on Sunday is the most realistic.

In Robert Kneschke's analysis from 2019, it can be seen that only 261 contributors had reached the sapphire ranking (more than 100,000) at that time.
If the overall ranking is based on the download numbers, you would have had at least the overall ranking of 261 with more than 100,000 downloads at that time. You are now at 564, which would mean that the number of Saphir contributors has more than doubled since 2019.
A few numbers from February 2019:
Total downloads/position in the overall ranking
4.700 / 8.000
8.500 / 5.000
28.000 / 1.400
32.000 / 1.200
67.000 / 450
120.000 / 200
The figures also agree quite well with Robert's analysis.
Early 2019:
Weekly downloads/position in the weekly ranking
10 / 10.000
50 / 3.000
100 / 1.000
250 / 350
350 / 200
400 / 170

9 downloads yesterday, my weekly rank didn't change today. I always though it was earnings not downloads. Does anyone know?

Would you be so kind as to post your weekly ranking again on Sunday evening when the week is over?
16,750th and the week hasn't been anything special. If I get some more DLs I'll try to remember to check again.
5 DLs today and my rank is now 16,800th - wait, I went down? But at least I know it's updated daily, not by the week on Sunday or Monday.

Interesting stats, cheers!
10 / 10.000
50 / 3.000
100 / 1.000
250 / 350
350 / 200
400 / 170
500 / 140
Well, the doubling of sapphire contributors wouldn't surprise me, but I'd say its a lot more. This year there's been a big improvement in volume... Those weekly downloads / rank are way off now. The weeks I've hit 1.5k dls in a week my rank was 120. Just wished I was at that volume all the time ;D

Well, at least you know one fact: you know that (only) 563 contributors have sold more images than you.
Sapphire is defined as having more than 100,000 downloads. Since I don't know how many downloads you have exactly, I can't judge how many Sapphire contributors there are.
I guess around 600 to 800, but you can judge that better than I can. Because I move in the Emerald area.

1,500 per week is brilliant! And beyond my imagination!

It's beyond mine as well! Feel lucky but really appreciate what AS do, as in providing the platform for me to work from. Next year it'll be 10 years as a full time stock photographer! I think I joined FT/AS in 2014. I just know the next 10 will be just as hard :o

At 7 dls for the week today and weekly rank has gone down to 30,600 which makes sense because average #dls/day has gone down.
Must be a wonderful feeling to make 100K downloads - and 1,500 in one day - I'm blown away!

You asked the wrong person that question. I can only dream of 1,500 downloads a week. And I don't even have the imagination for that!
The question should be addressed to HalfFull.

How do I get to see my weekly ranking? I've changed the stats to weekly and monthly downloads but no ranking appears. Am I missing something?
-
If you believe the data on the 2020 survey - and I do - this could be any other agency that's open to anyone who wants to join.
Portfolio size Number Portfolios Percent of Total
Only 1 image 98,088 21.20%
2 to 10 183,268 39.61%
11 to 100 111,727 24.15%
Under 100 images, 85% of the total contributors! There are many who join or start and don't follow through. Most of these people, will never reach payout. Of course there could be an exception with a small collection or wonderful, niche, stunning images, but same as the numbers for portfolio size, most will not.
Everyone with 101 images, back then, was in the top 15%. And I'd suspect that most of the people below 100, didn't suddenly wake up and start working and have added 900 new images.
My point, looking at this the other way is, only 5% of the contributors had 1,000 images or more. People can keep working, but the percentage is going to remain about the same. As more artists grow to over 1,000 and more artists join who don't, the 5% is probably still the same.
The top 15% could now be 200 or 300 images. The specific number isn't important as the other 85% are the majority and pretty much inactive.

Because I am anonymous on this forum and any more info would make me (even more) easily identifiable. If I was in position 10000 a few dls either way on a given week could radically change my position. I have already narrowed down who I am to a handful of people (to the agency).
I want to be able to critique agencies without fear of being banned (like happened to Sean and Jo Ann).

Why snitches? This is a public forum. Everyone can see it, including microstoick agency staff. But many agencies even have members with official accounts here.
-
@WILM just going along with the Monday Morning rank you requested, I would have needed to look last night as now it's Monday and my WEEKLY rank is 11,250th ;D Up from 16,800th.
Someone else I know checked and they have a " - " for a rank, no DLs yet this week. I don't remember what I was last week. It changed every day. (nothing special, just noting that it updates daily) And as the week went on and I had more DLs, my rank dropped.
I assume that was because other people did better and had more DLs as the week progressed. So even if I was making money, my rank was going the other way, in relation to people with more images and more downloads.
Entertaining

You aren't anonymous, Sean wasn't banned for posting on MSG or forums, Jo Ann wasn't banned for what she wrote here. I'd like to have her say how she got banned to believe that? Agencies don't have spies watching what we write here they don't care. The only regular reader is Mat who comes to help and inform. Tell the truth.

It wasn’t really for being critical. It was due to an overzealous and confused “leadership”.

And good point, if it showed Lifetime or This Week, as the default, that would make more sense, than showing Month? But of course, I could argue that most people are looking for what they have earned this month, not download position. No win?
