June 3rd, 2009 by Lee Torrens
Fotolia have recruited their second ex-iStockphoto executive. Fotolia appointed Garth Johnson as SVP of North America
Is this a good sign for Fotolia contributors?

Thank Tyler for the link.
The way I understand it from following the forum from a year back when I first started in micro is that the "old" Istock had a great team which made them so successful. Fotolia can only succeed with already two from that team, right?
Only question is, lee also pointed out http://www.microstockdiaries.com/garth-johnson-joins-fotolia.html (http://www.microstockdiaries.com/garth-johnson-joins-fotolia.html)
that lowering of commission was a "good" move. Did I misread that? How could that be "good" for us? Whichever, I am good for Fotolia.

I definitely have mixed reaction. I would tend to think this is a good thing for Fotolia. The istock members they have recruited helped put istock on top.
But as Tan510jomast astutely pointed out, around the time Patrick Lor joined the team the great innovation was lowering contributor royalties.
I chose not to view that as the end of the world, but nobody's gonna convince me it was a great step forward for contributors either.
ETA - Great reporting Lee. And thanks puravida for posting it here. BTW, very handsome avatar there, fella ;)
