Title: Crazy rejection of 150 images from Fotolia
Post by: Beppe Grillo on March 05, 2013, 16:16
I have been very surprised to see almost all my last upload (150 images) rejected by Fotolia.

The same images started to sell on ST one hour after the acceptation (I have already sold some there)

The reasons:
Composition
The scene must clearly illustrate the intended subject or theme and be free of any distracting elements (eg., shadows, grey sky, unrelated items).

Originality & Quality
The subject of your photo should be unique to the Fotolia database, or be of higher quality. For example, fauna or flora images must have added value (very high quality, definition, keywording) to be accepted, because thousands of images are already online for this category.

Background Quality
The background was not coherent with the subject matter, or lacked aesthetic quality.

Isolation quality
For isolated files, please verify the outline quality at 100% zoom.

Well, here you can see some samples

The quality is good enough (some are better than other of course)

The composition is not bad and clearly illustrate the subject or the theme (Typical antique Ukrainian houses), I think that it is not so difficult to understand when the title of the image is: "A typical ukrainian antique house"

This is a place almost unique in the world, so I think that the originality has not to be demonstrated

Background quality ?????
Isolation quality ?????

Maybe the reviewer was tired? ……… or drunk…? :D :D

The subject looks better suited for Alamy RM.  I doubt they will sell much on micros, maybe 25 cents every now and then?

+1 .... and will sell even better on Fine Art America. low value on micros

Same images that 123 rejected for copyright?  Maybe same here (FT rejection notices are generic might be copyright here too).  Most likely, the same will happen on IS, DT, and SS if submitted there too.

its FT, believe you never submitted much there or you would know already, they never were or will be travel oriented, if you want success in FT its people, isolations and lets say food

@ tickstock and nicku > Thanks for the advice, I will!!!

@ heywood > yes the same images, but on SS 146 uploads, 4 rejections, and already 5 images sold two hours after acceptation :)
DT we will see… DP CP BS PD etc have accepted every thing, but they don't sell a lot

@ luissantos84, thanks for the advice too, I must consider that too.

I have other experiences. I sell similar photos of old houses in Sweden on Fotolia, and the motives are selling well.  Maybe the images were rejected because no PR is available? Regards, röde-orm

Ah ah, maybe you put so much of your houses that they don't want no more :D

Well, if they want a PR or if the Photos are not the kind of images that they need they should not say me:
Composition
Originality & Quality
Background
Isolation……

But: "we need a release" or "This kind of images does not fit to our needs"

If the were a minimum "clear" it could help, no?

sorry but I was talking about travel oriented not "houses" (I kind of placed them on the same basket), the ones approved (travel) do sell also, my experience is upload and forget

Really like the shots.  Maybe leave more sky in the comp for stock. Agree with others on posting to FAA and Alamy

maybe they are a bit oversaturated in the greens and washed out in the lighter colours?

Admitting that they are oversaturated (and they are not so saturated as the previews) the reason of the rejection should be "Oversaturated images" or something that means the same thing, and not:
- Composition
- Originality & Quality
- Background Quality
- Isolation quality

By the way I am seeing that after that I wrote to FT some more of the images from the series are being accepted :)

It sounds as if you expect justice and reasonable explanations from the agencies.

Then you have not had enough rejections...

It is random, they have their ways, we can disagree or not.
It doesnt matter.

Best attitude is "Their loss".
And sometimes its true, but mostly they know what they do.

BTW.. use the houses in compositions:

Clone in wolves, chimney smoke, christmas trees and halloween monsters, then we have something special that can reach high sales numbers. Those huts cannot, and thats what they are trying to tell you. Alone the number of pictures you upload undermines the salesworthyness.
