Title: Credits price change
Post by: Dumc on March 12, 2015, 03:00
Hi.

This is my first post.

I have a bronze level at fotolia, and if someone purchased a file for credits I got: 5 credits for M, 7 credits for L and 8 credits for XL downloads.
Since last week, this has now been changed. Now I get 6 credits from M, 8 credits for L and 10 credits for XL downloads.
Does anybody know, why this has changed? Not that I'm complaining though :).

Thanks

didn't see a raise here. I,m silver level.
I also get 6 for an M, but as far as I know it has always been that.

Maybe my raise will come soon  ;)

Yes, seems to have changed, I found an old screenshot in my blog showing different prices (it's from 2012 though, there might have been other price changes in the meantime):

I am at the White level still (very new to this) and we did see a chance in price of extended license images. They used to be 20 credits (a real deal for buyers but not so good for us) and now they are at 30. Great timing as I had 2 sell this week at the higher price.

I'm also silver and I see that the minimum price for ELs has been raised from 20 to 30.
But it doesn't affect me since I already maximized all of them to 100.

Nice move by Fotolia, gently increasing prices, testing the water step by step.

Now that iStock has exited the S,M,L part of the market by eliminating 'price by size' and charging $12-$15 per shot, the market is wide open for FT, 123 and perhaps DT to capitalise on the enormous gap.  FT now starts at $1 for XS, and $3 for S (I believe) compared to $12-$15 at istock.  Istock has thrown away (again) the smaller customers, thousands of whom will no doubt have migrated elsewhere (and resulting in Getty's 'profits warning').

However, the prices at FT appear to be too low.  Probably they'll resist increasing the basic XS price because that will move them away from 'dollar a shot' marketing.  But on the other hand they've got DPC for that.

So it looks like iStock has given its competitors an enormous advantage AND the chance to increase their own profits through some modest price increases.  Hopefully they won't make the same mistake istock has made over the years and simply scare the customers away.  There's certainly scope to raise the smaller size prices by a decent amount.  Slowly slowly catchee monkee.

with XS credit sale you get less than DPC, still everybody sure that DPC is so evil?  ;D

I see they have increased Extended License prices for Bronze to 60. Good news. But my prices are still set at 50.

Note to everyone: make sure that you ask Fotolia to set your prices to the maximum (you can do it yourself but you'd have to do it one by one.)
