Title: Different Fotolia payout in different countries?
Post by: bbettina on November 23, 2007, 12:25
Do I get this right:  I am on the US version of Fotolia and am making 35% of whatever I sell in US Dollars .  If I were to sell through the British website I would make the same percentage of the same amount of money but in British Pounds or if I were on the German website I would make the same in Euros.
I hate to point out the obvious but the BP is twice as much as the Dollar and the Euro almost 1.5 times as much as the Dollar.  So why wouldn't I sell through one of the other sites (okay, it would suck to have to translate everything into German but that isn't the case for the British webpage and moreover most of my sales seem to come from Europe anyway).

Am I missing something?

No you are not missing anything.

I live in Spain but 1 credit still equals $1.

It is a bit of a rip off, I sold a large image yesterday to an English company who paid 3 GB pounds ($6) and I got $1 for it (16.5% or Fotolia take 83.5%commision!!!!!)

Why is everything in America cheaper, subsidised etc.

I was wandering what would happen if microstocks would start trading in Euros instead of dollars, since nobody can see the end of the US dollar falling? Actually, this is what lots of companies involved in international business are starting to do.

Do you guys think it may change something from the buyer side? I believe that buyers would still stick to microstocks as prices for RF would be the cheapest. In the meanwhile both contributors and agencies would get a considerable boost in revenues.

Best regards,
Diego

As an Englishman I am selling on the British version of Fotolia. For each credit we receive 57 pence, at the present exchange rate that is still better than $1 by around 10%. For me that's not a huge difference, but it obviously depends on the amount of images that you sell.

I'm also registered on the US site.
Does anyone know if it is possible to switch to different?

I live in the UK but unfortunately I registered on the US site (didn't know there was a UK site...). I wrote Fotolia and asked if I could change but nope, can't be done -- maybe they would have let me change if I had been in the US and had registered for a non$$$$ Fotolia...

I wrote to fotolia too but they told me they cannot switch the zone. How is it possible???
Actually, I applied long time ago when the italian version didnt even exist.
I complained again and I hope they'll do something. I'll keep you update.
Best wishes,
Diego

I think it would be good if contributors from countries already in the zone list were given the chance to be in their own zone.

Like most, when I signed up, I was unaware of other zones that existed.
