Title: Don't sell my files on DPC. I received call from DPC several times since.
Post by: Boians Cho Joo Young on July 17, 2014, 04:33
Don't sell my files on DPC. I received call from Dollar Photo Club several times since.

[Phone details are.]
1.The reason to refuse the sale of DPC?
2.Be persuaded to continue the sale of DPC.
3.DPC is claiming to present micro-stock future?

I don't know why fotolia keep calling.

DPC is a poison to microstock. I would encourage you to refrain from ever agreeing to put your work there. They are certainly the future DESTRUCTION of microstock, but not the future of a fruitful microstock, that's for sure.

Also, you have very nice illustrations, WAY MORE VALUABLE THAN FOR $1 and this is why they want your portfolio.

I haven't gotten any calls or requests to come back to DPC. Guess they don't like me much.

There are good agencies.  If by good you mean fair to contributors then Istock is not one of them.  They are about as good as Fot.

There are good agencies.
Care to share?
It all depends how you define 'good'.
Some only offer a little percentage.
Some sell for peanuts, and any percentage of peanuts is poor.
Some offer a better percentage of a fair price but don't sell much. 60% of 0 is 0.
Some sell for a fair price and offer a reasonable percentage, but are cliquey.

Its been discussed many times.   Some agencies have good split with sellers but few sales, others have good volume and treat sellers like dirt.  I don't have any secret information.   But I read your posts.  I get the idea you are not a fan of IS in recent years either.  Who is other than maybe a dewy eyed newcomer?   Does anyone with any history thinks IS is so much better than FT?

It's been discussed many times, but with no answers. When you said "There are good agencies" I thought you might have new information.  :)

Sad to say, no.  Just repeating what the other guy said and adding my own opinion.  It sounded better than: all the agencies suck but these suck the worst.  ;)

I think Tickstock has been made redundant during istock restructuring ;-)

My guess is he stopped posting here because of these kinds of comments.  If there is ever a more professional atmosphere around here I wouldn't be surprised to see him back again.

Since you didn't know who it was you are assuming a lot.  There's a reason nobody liked this guy.

I think it's a pretty safe assumption.

Well, I missed you. I like a variety of opinions even if I don't always agree with them.

Me too! Although, there are times when I wish you would express your opinion on a broader array of subjects. Regardless I read every single one of your posts.

I too agree, I like a variety of opinions and it is good that we are all free to express ours here. And if we get tired of someone repeating things which we know to be wrong and arguing against things we know to be true, we are free to click 'Ignore'.

He is most welcome. Sometimes you he is very insightful.

Thanks but I doubt I'll be posting too much in the future.  While I think the threads on DPC and Depositphotos are useful there is far too much other nonprofessional and nonphotography stuff on here.  I just glanced through a few threads and arguments about WWIII, Bush vs. Obama, and insulting people trying to discuss what it takes to be profitable seem to dominate.  I also don't see very many long time, full time stock photographers posting on here and if they do it's only rarely.  I think there are lots of ways a forum like this can be useful but it might have strayed too far away from it's purpose and become just another place to complain without seriously looking at how to make the situation better.  I know I've been involved in the petty back and forth that defines this place now but I left for a while because that wasn't getting anyone anywhere.  It would be great to see a more positive discussion about things like collaboration, strategies to increase profitability and cut costs, starting an organization that represents our interests, a marketplace or more structured gear review, curated lists of resources, etc...  but right now it seems almost any discussion of serious topics devolves into a shouting match within a page or two.  Hopefully in the future this can be a place that is useful for the professionals again.

I read the threads I'm interested in and ignore the ones I'm not. If a thread I am interested in and/or post in turns ugly, it falls into the latter category. This is a forum - a tradition started by the Romans - where they stabbed Caesar in the back.

after a phone call i partly agreed on selling on dolarphoto ,but after a while i realised its not worth for us at all .
dolarphoto can be fine if images included in the library was the images from free section on fotolia.
simply if you copy and paste any image from fotolia or other stock site in to google image serch engine you will quickly find the way of buying the same image for a dolar
that for example cost 10$ on fotolia , it will quickly devaluate all of your images.
Designers are clever and its not a big deal of finnding those via google.
