Title: Extended Creativity and Licenses
Post by: luissantos84 on March 13, 2014, 10:00
Dear Contributors,

Fotolia is taking steps to improve revenues for every hardworking contributor, and align our offers with the marketplace. As a part of this, print runs for our Standard License will be updated to 500,000.

This means all customers requiring unlimited print runs for projects will require an Extended License - which will mean higher royalties. The unlimited print run clause in our Standard Licenses was originally inserted to match the needs of consumers, but a changing market means we are now updating this offer.

We have decided to include Extended Licenses for all images available on the Fotolia website, and to remove the Extended License opt-out option from our indexing tools. Images not previously offered in the Extended License will now be proposed at 20 Credits - but this price can be modified by you (depending on your rank).

Look out for the new changes being rolled out over the next 2 weeks.

These higher sales of Extended Licenses will enable higher rewards for all of you – our amazing image creators!

Kind regards,

The Fotolia Team

A step in the right direction. Now all they need to do is tell their buyers about the limitations. Lets hope it will bring more $$

So we have to go in and change all old files ourselves?

Its ironic, Getty gives their images away for free and Fotolia decides to restrict their licence and ask more money for an image  :)

Let's not get carried away. You have to keep this in perspective.

I'm not sure how many buyers need that large a print run.
SS has a more realistic 250,000.

I'm not on Fotolia, but was wondering because I was thinking about joining. Don't they make all images that haven't sold in 6 months level 1? So those images would be offered for the 20 credit (several dollars for you) as an extended license and there is no opt out? Also, the extended license at Fotolia allows POD.

The EL Price is not affected by this. It will stay at whatever you set it, even if the regular credits sales price goes down. Mine are all still at 100 for the EL.

If you were opted out of Extended licenses and now all of your images have EL's priced at the minimum of 20 credits you can email support to request a bulk change of the prices.  The change will be made fairly quickly.

Thank you! That is good to know :)
