Title: Fotolia Question
Post by: Cricket on March 14, 2009, 17:06
Hi Guys,

I got a question about Fotolia's new policy change.

1. Will Fotolia automatically delete photos that have not sold in 24 months?  :'(

or...

2. Will the unsold photos be offered as free Downloads, WITHOUT the photographer's consent?   >:(

I am just wondering because Fotolias change in policy has me a little confused.  ::)

As far as I know No to both questions, both deletion or making them free require the photographer to do something.

There is an unsold tab where you can see and "sell" 24+ month old unsold photos for 50c but to delete them you would have to search through all your files.

interesting to look in that section and see the variance between sites. 1 image in there sells 2-3 times a week on shutterstock, and probably once a week elsewhere, and there are a few others that sell every couple of weeks. Not a criticism (I have images that I made exclusive to fotolia because they sold there so often compared everyone else), its just interesting the dynamics of search engines and targetted markets etc

I too have thought that FT had a "different" market place.  I haven't been there long or sold much but it seems that what sells is to European buyers.  Is that an accurate assumption?  I'm trying to come up with image ideas of local subjects that might be interesting to European market.

If I remember right didnt fotolia and dreamstime say they were going to start deleting unsold images a year or two ago?

I don't think DT deleted anything in my portfolio.  My oldest images are there.  FT is not deleting anything, from my understanding.

I have now about 12 images in IS's dollar bin.

Adelaide
