Title: Fotolia search not returning my images
Post by: increasingdifficulty on April 19, 2016, 09:40
When I try different combinations of keywords to find my images, about half the time, they are not found. Despite all of those keywords being present in the description and/or keyword section.

Some combinations work, others don't so it's definitely in the system, but can't be found with some combinations.

I find this very strange. Have you experienced anything like this?

Something like that.
It seems like not all the clips  are on line all the time (in my case I have only footage on FT)

I just tried a few searches for my images, and I notice the same thing. One image I searched using the exact title/description, and it found it ok on the third page of results. On the next one, I tried the same thing, and I didn't find it on the first 8 pages. There were 105 pages and I wasn't going to go through all the pages. So it could be there, just buried. I tried a couple of different, separate searches using a basic word contained in my keywords, and those two came up on the first page of the search.

I think that with millions of images online, you are going to have a difficult time finding all of your images, all of the time. You know, of course, that they change the search algorithm all the time, then you have to factor in such things such as your images competing with someone on staff, reviewers, etc. who could possibly bury your images, and so on and so on. It is all just a crapshoot.

Yes, but they were very specific combinations that only returned one or two pages of results. So it was definitely not there at all.

You can always see your images in search result if you try to search them with your keywords. Fotolia don't consider the title much, they give maximum exposure using your keywords.

I'm having a similar issue, more with my FT photos searchability at Adobe Stock even if using the combination of the main keywords. I wrote to FT support twice, got a response from Mat saying they would look into it but it seems the issue hasn't been fully resolved.
As I was explained it's their spellchecker that doesn't recognize unique keywords and doesn't properly attribute those keywords to the images. In my case it's about certain geographic locations that are relatively rare

Once upon a time Fotolia claimed they gave highest priority to the first keywords.  Can't remember if it was 7 or 10.  I don't know if they still do this,  but could explain your trouble finding your images using title and description.

According to Matt at Fotolia on 6/11/15:

"Remember that the search places priority on the first 7 keywords submitted so be sure to place the most relevant keywords at the top of the list".

FT doesn't take the title into consideration when searching for images.

If the words in the title are not in the keyword section, you will never find your images.

Yes, and that's a bummer if you didn't realize how FT works when you first uploaded your images. I'm in that situation with a lot of mine.

it's frustrating to see the error plain as day on the FT website and not be able to fix it easily. I've sent a few "Can you fix this for me please?" requests to support for serious mistakes that happened when an image mistakenly got processed as a batch with others it should not have been processed with. That's happened to me several times.

Support staff (including Mat) has fixed those goofs for me when I requested that, but it would be so much simpler if we could just fix 'em ourselves. Very cumbersome.

Otherwise, I really like FT since Adobe took it over.

Imho you need to change the keywords order. I think that Fotolia indexing system is based on the first keywords and not the title
