Title: Fotolia Subs paying $2.50??
Post by: lisafx on March 30, 2011, 12:38
I just had a couple of subscription XL sales on Fotolia that paid $2.50 each.  This is, as far as I know, something totally new.  Anyone else seen similar or know anything about this?

Hope it's not a mistake.  $2.50 subs would definitely be very good news :)

2,5 is a typical price for XL Standard at Fotolia, so I'm afraid that must've been a mistake.

Talking of Fotolia - I just noticed a L Standard sale in my list with zero credits. I don't think I have any free images on Fotolia, but is there a way to see free images in my account from the site. I sorted the files by the colored dot, but nothing appeared to show up as Free in that list. Any other ideas?

Wait, don't we get 2.48 for an XL Standard?

So far today I've seen a bunch of Subscription XL commissions for .38, and also a bunch of Subscription XXLs, also for .38.

Weird.  I've had my usual sub downloads today too.  Plenty of those.  These two stood out.

Maybe it was just a misreporting of the type of DL and it was actually supposed to show as PPD on a couple of 1 credit images.

If you look at FT's website  (http://us.fotolia.com/Info/Contributors)and scroll down a bit, there is a paragraph about "Annual limit subscription plans". The royalties for one of those for an emerald contributor (like Lisa) are stated to be 2.5 Credits.
I have absolutely no idea what these plans are and neither had any of those sales yet.

The decimal place is probably off by one. 0.25?   ;D

Actually, I'd feel proud about this if I were you.  That is probably something not a lot of contributors see very often.  Nice job!

When did Fotolia start selling such plans?
I've never seen or heard about it either.

How is such a plan purchased? When I go through the subscription buying process I cannot see this annual thing...???

That's what I would like to know as well. The only reference I have ever seen is the one I posted above. And Lisa's post here is the first time I ever heard of someone actually selling one of those.
What bothers me: If those plans pay so much more to the contributor, there must be more behind it, it cannot be just the same type of sale like a regular sub sale. And just calling it "annual subscription" does not say anything, they do have annual options in their regular subs plans.

I'm emerald but I'm pretty sure that I have never had one of those.  I hope it is something new and is going to become a regular thing. :)

Me too!  Would love to see those rows of $.34 sales turn into $2.50 sales :)

This can't be right. I think the example you mentioned is a "regular" monthly subscription plan for the duration of one year.

I looked at the subscription purchase calculator too, yesterday but these numbers won't add up though IMO.

The annual subscription implies the downloads of maximum file sizes.

As an Emerald such as Lisa, a buyer would only be able to purchase approx. 811 files over the entire year to "use up" the initial purchase price of $2,028.27 and not 9125 downloads.

If an annual subscriber would download all 9125, paying "only" $2,028.27 the average download price would be approx. 22 cents and not $2.50 so how could Fotolia afford this plan?

I would assume the annual plan either is restricted to a few daily downloads or an overall amount of downloads like 200 over the course of the entire year. I'm sure Fotolia wants to make some money as well.

It's just weird that I can't find a clear annual subscription calculator on their site. Maybe someone found it and can post it here.
It's a bit weird but of course who would complain for $2.50 subscription downloads...

Congrats, Lisa! Good to know these are not mistakes. I always think it is a mistake when I see a 22c subs, then I remember is the tax cutting my awesome reward.  ;D

It is still strange this much higher subs price. I wonder if usage terms are the same as of regular subs plans?
