well... I don't post much (practically never i think) but usually read this forum (great work Leaf), and usually (try to) take the things with humour... so:

what was the first(s) thing(s) you thought when you read the fotolia email or this thread: http://www.microstockgroup.com/index.php/topic,4784.0.html

(max 3 votes per user)

ps. i apologize in advance if some of the options are a bit "out of place", i just woken up that's how my mind work (don't) in the mornings...
ps2. yes, my english is bad and i have a weird sense of humour, i know
disclaimer: no, it's not meant to be a serious poll

I say where's the delete button, because I asked them how to delete and they answer me "We are sorry to hear that, can we do something...".

LOL Yes you can do something, just make my files appearing when somebody search whit one of my keywords and then I will be happy. Even if it's on page 120! LOL

I guess I am one of the "lucky" ones.  I never thought I would say that, but since my portfolio has never caught on with Fotolia, I consider them easily replaced.  Their earnings contribution ranges from 6 to 10 percent for me, usually 4th to 5th among the Top 7.

Since my earnings grow by 10% or more per month, I could drop them today and completely replace their earnings within 30 days.  Not a big deal.

I really feel for the folks that do well with Fotolia.  The contributors who make 15-25% of their income through them.  Those are the contributors who really lose out unfortunately. Either they accept this complete insult of an offer, or they drop them and lose the income.

Since Fotolia is willing to offer 23c to 30c per contributor based on rank, obviously they can afford the high end (30c) or they wouldn't be offering it to anyone.  Honestly, if they just came out and said everyone would make 30c per DL like StockXpert and DT (and SS last month), I would have no problem with it.  I'm not anti-subscription.  SS is proof that it can work big time for contributors.  It's the 23c-25c range which makes my stomach turn.

This topic is getting interesting. They are starting to write down all the benefits of fotolia which don't really matter much if they offer subs:

Fotolia has a lot of benefits for contributors, I think you need to balance all that Fotolia offers.

Only images are exclusive to Fotolia not photographers
Huge commissions for per download sales
The possibility to offer images to the infinite collection
The ability to raise your prices beyond the standard industry rates

Some of you need to remember Fotolia is only 3 years old we have had huge growth over the last few years and we will continue to do so if we react to the market needs and plan for the future of this company.

My reply:
Quote
1. Exclusivity in terms of subscritions only makes it possible to opt out.
2. Huge comissions don't apply for subs.
3. Why would buyers buy at IF if they can get images for 0.23
4. Can I raise the sub prices?

Really. Their search results are definitely unique in the industry.  :)
Fotolia is sort of a "don't care" for me. I upload when I remember. What really ticks me off there is the inability to edit descriptions/keywords. At least this is the way it was last time I looked. Sometimes you just forget stuff.

Overall the subscription model does not matter much to me. I do not do really well on FO. It may help the lower earning people a bit, but may have a very detrimental effect on those who are now doing well there.

Subs commissions have been increased, after complaints (now ranges from 25 to 32c - wow!).

Not that I think it really solves the issue - and for me the most important thing would be being able to opt-out.
